Women in IT Snapshot - Rhianna Lomas, Project Analyst
Tim Cook, CEO of 苹果 , rightly said there aren't enough Women in Tech.
Though the number of women in Tech is increasing , they are still relatively as low as 40% globally and only 19% in the U.K.
As part of our Women in IT series, which aims to inspire all women wanting to enter the Technology world, we're introducing Rhianna Lomas , a dynamic Project Analyst working within an Infrastructure team at Asda .
Rhianna took some time out of her busy schedule to give us an insight into her role for other women to see what it's like being a woman in Infrastructure at Asda.
How did you find yourself in a Project Analyst role?
My journey began as an apprentice in the #NHS at Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust as an apprentice. I used my knowledge to move towards a path into project management with Kirklees Council , then landed my dream role at Asda using my #prince2foundation qualification to manage projects seamlessly.
Does IT infrastructure have a high ratio of women?
Within the team, 8 out of 21 are female; although we are not the majority, I have not seen this as an obstacle as our ideas are valued equally by our male colleagues. However, I can see this improving over the years as women in STEM are often discussed in academic settings. The team of women are highly skilled, and as a team, we genuinely believe diversity enhances our results.

What kind of ventures do you take part in within your industry that supports you in networking with other women like you?
The Technology and Property departments recently launched cohort two of the "Women in Leadership" programme, which I am pleased to be a part of. The programme lasts six months, and you are assigned a mentor and invited to attend events where a female guest speaker shares life experiences and advice on how to succeed in leadership as a female. This programme also provides an excellent opportunity to network with colleagues and build meaningful working relationships.
Nominate a woman making waves as a leader
Grace Beverley CEO & Founder of TALA & SHREDDY.
Grace started on YouTube, showing her life at university and her passion for fitness. It was motivational to see her launch sustainable and ethical businesses that led her to be on the Forbes 30 under 30 list. She showed that a passion could become a business, and she often uses her social media platforms to encourage women into leadership and shine a spotlight on others.
And finally, what's your motto?
I am a big believer in the phrase - "If you can see it, you can be it."
We want to thank Rhianna for participating in our Women in Tech series.
