Continuing our Women Signicat leaders initiative, we present you our lovely Maja Selseth ! ??

Maja is Signicat’s VP of Development, located in Trondheim. ???? She discussed her strategies for staying driven and inspired, her views on the influence of women in the business realm, and how the company maintains a more inclusive and equitable workplace for women. ??

Each and every one of us has valuable strengths and qualities to bring to the business world. We all have different knowledge, good and less favourable experiences and ways of thinking. Among other variations between us, gender is one of them. To create the best products and get the results we aim for, it is a no-brainer that we need to combine all our skills and traits. Great product comes from excellent work, collaboration, great strengths and qualities. The combination is our power! ????

Make the workplace a safe place, with awareness across the business and openness related to potential gender barriers. In parallel, visible and good role models in the business are needed – women that are supportive and safe, with broad experience to share and simultaneously mentor, encourage, and at the same time challenge young women. With the needed support, I hope young women step up, lean in, take their place and excel. Their knowledge, experience and voice matter, and they are the ones to trust it first. ??

I love my work, what we achieve and that we are part of people’s daily routines, in the background, making their lives smoother and safer like an invisible everyday hero. ????♀?

However, to be this invisible everyday hero, we need to face various and difficult challenges from time to time that force us to innovate, combine what we already know in a fresh manner and make products the world has not seen before. It is undoubtful motivating! Nevertheless, seeing others enjoying being a part of this exciting travel inspires me as well. ??

Thus, my colleagues are one of my greatest motivators – their knowledge, the ability to share it, achievements, shared experience and fun – individually and as a group. ?? To get to be a part of such a team, which has a shared vision and a goal on their minds, is truly a privilege. ??

Of course, everyone needs to recharge from time to time. ????♀? Put the brain on pause and give a break to new ideas or other thoughts. For me, it is the right balance of everything that my everyday life consists of, in addition to deep breaths, fresh air and coffee. ??

By focusing on our great women through a dedicated Women at Signicat group, where a mentoring program is one of the focus areas. In addition, the dedicated month for women, like March has been this year in Signicat, is definitely bringing awareness to all of us about the importance of still having equality on the agenda. ??

Yes, we are still a minority when it comes to both women employees in total and in leadership positions, so our mission, how I see it, is to keep highlighting all the exciting things that we do in Signicat and show the way into this exciting tech world by being visible and good role models. Women absolutely can in Signicat! ?? ??

Combining all skills and traits, including gender diversity, are crucial to creating the best products and achieving the desired results. ?? Nevertheless, a workplace must promote awareness of gender barriers and call attention to role models to create a safe work environment to help young women succeed in the business world. ?? Also, leadership can be hard to handle sometimes, so it’s essential to have supportive colleagues and the exciting challenges faced as a team to keep up the motivation. ??
