Women in Rail Christmas Report - London

The London Committee are honoured to have engaged with so many of the London Region members over the course of 2024 through the variety of events that were held and look forward to continuing to provide opportunities for members to develop their skills and grow their networks in 2025.?

Empowering Yourself to Become More Significant – Masterclass and Networking

The London Committee were delighted to welcome over 140 members from across the industry to their first event of the year, an Empower Yourself to Become More Significant masterclass hosted by Sylvia Baldock. An interactive and engaging session, members were guided through the key steps to success – namely implementing small changes into your daily life to increase your feeling of empowerment. The evening was filled with insightful takeaways such as working in your ‘flow’ so you’re not struggling to progress, building a personal brand and being conscious of how those around you can impact your wellbeing. Sylvia had everyone on their feet, practising a variety of exercises to help break up the long periods sat behind a desk and to encourage movement throughout the day. The key takeaways? Take a moment to appreciate the now and remember that what you do matters. Members were also able to take full advantage of the opportunity to meet like-minded industry colleagues during the networking and refreshments session after the masterclass. In-person events such as these are incredibly important, especially as the industry recovers from Covid, in increasing the networks of our members.?

Depot Visits

Three depot tours were held this year: GTR Siemens Hornsey Depot, a National Women in Engineering Day Tour of Three Bridges ROC and Depot, and a tour of Eurostar Temple Mills Depot. The events had limited capacity due to the nature of the tour, and places were booked rapidly as Women in Rail London members showcased their keen interest in these events. Those members who were able to secure places found the depot visits to be enjoyable, informative and an incredible opportunity for a ‘behind-the-scenes’ look at depots for those who may not have had much experience of these sites.?

Leadership Journey Series Part 1: The Foundations of Leadership Masterclass and Networking?

The first part of Women in Rail London’s Leadership Journey Series was a Foundations of Leadership masterclass and networking session, led by Adie Saunders. Adie took the audience of over 100 members through the ABCs of Leadership – Assertiveness, Boundaries and Charisma. It was clear that the audience valued Adie’s tips on how best to harness these ‘ABCs’ to find a leadership style that works for you and achieves the goals you desire.?

2025

The London Committee have exciting things planned for 2025 - with the second part of the Leadership Journey series, a Lessons from Leaders panel with senior leaders from across the industry willing to share their experiences of leadership throughout their career, scheduled for 4th February. There are also a number of depot tours and other events in the pipeline, so watch this space!
