Kamala N., ASQ-MB’s Chair and Phillip Doherty, Past Chair asked me to capture and perpetuate Manitoba’s Section history of quality activities. My intent is to collect the dots and reflect on the observations and evidence.
Speaking of connecting the dots, on behalf of our community quality efforts over the years, I’ve submitted a 2019, 2020 and a third project application to the 2021 Paris Peace Forum, the theme, Designs Orchestrate Technologies; Science. The submission was on behalf of Manitoba’s grassroots partners?to contribute to November’s 2021 World Quality Month an behalf of Canada.
As understood, October is still recognized as National Quality Month in the US. Given the considerable contributions by many over the years in participation with Manitoba’s and Canada’s October Quality Months, what I shall do on behalf of our many legacies and considerable efforts over the years is to recognize that Ms. Isobel St. Clair Loutit was not only a Woman of Quality but considering that October is Women’s History Month is to recognize her influence and impact on the quality profession in Canada.?
The ASQ Montreal Section has captured a considerable wealth of historical material to quality efforts. Material is available demonstrating Ms. Loutit's participation over the years.
I’ve written this on behalf of the ASQ Canada Sections whom seemed to have missed the duality of the opportunity to aligning past October Quality Months with October’s Women in History month and especially the theme, Women Making History Now. Not only a historical legacy and a quality one as well that reflects the character, integrity and competence of the many women who served in service to Canada who may or may not have worn a uniform.??

Ms. Benda Fisk, ASQ Canada Regional Director and a member of ASQ’s Board of Directors, represented ASQ’s President, Ken Case.?The ASQ Society congratulated and thanked Isobel for being "a pioneer in the deployment of modern methods in quality control and in the management of quality during the period from 1940's through the 1970's, and for leadership in the ASQ in Canada".
I shall add Ms. Brenda Fisk is also a Woman of Quality and character who has a considerable history as a woman of impact who I have known to demonstrate “Women Making History Now.”? I believe she was the last ASQ Board member who represented Canada.
The Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, today issued the following statement on Women’s History Month: “Women have long been trailblazers in creating a better, more inclusive and equal Canada. During?Women's History Month, we celebrate Canadian women’s contributions to building the country we know today.
“This year’s theme – Women Making History Now – recognizes the women who are making a lasting impact for our country today, including in addressing the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic and moving us forward on the path of reconciliation. From mental health care providers, nurses, and doctors, to teachers, scientists, and members of the Canadian Armed Forces, women of all backgrounds continue to act as powerful agents of change and inspire future generations to fight for an equal world. This summer, Canadians also watched proudly as our women Paralympians and Olympians made history with their many athletic accomplishments in Tokyo.
