Women In Power

The most significant hurdle for women in power can push past the typical insults thrown at them by men and women. Many news outlets present men as awful creatures who do everything they can to allow women to progress in an environment. Men can be jealous of women in power, and the larger the group of men, the more likely they are to live up to this stereotype. Personal experience has shown that women are harder on other women. 

I have always been a woman to take control, so being in power comes naturally to me. When a woman obtains a position above other women, jealousy is often the initial response. 

Women in power do not feel the need to explain their actions. We do things that are correct to our current agenda. The only person who we need approval from is ourselves. I have yet to meet a woman that was in power that was not dominant in other areas of their lives. 

We understand that the word 'no' is a complete sentence. Passive women will often feel the need to explain themselves to people who do not deserve more than a simple answer. Another trait of submissive women is they will agree to something to not hurt someone. A dominant woman will tell you upfront about what she will do. 

As a woman in power, I am empathetic to other people, but I also see a person for who they are, not what they show to the world. The ability to judge people on real value can cause complications when other people choose to believe the lie that others are telling. For a woman in power, actions are far more telling than words. It is hard to be a forgiving person due to the issue of people using forgiveness as a means of creating more problems at a later time. 

A man in power is accepted by society; they can say things that appear as a callus. Other people may find it unsettling, but it is not something they will break a relationship over when a woman in power speaks in the same manner than people start shunning her. 

People will often use terms to try and isolate a woman. She will be called bitch, cunt, or other words. Derogatory comments are commonly used to try and make a woman feel guilty and therefore change the behavior the other people do not want. Even if she is only coming from a drive to improve or move forward with her life, others will attempt to use emotions to pull her in a particular direction. The most effective way to handle the situation is to embrace the words and not give them the power intended. 

Being a woman in power can change her not due to status but how they interact with others around. Men have the luxury of battling it out in the boardroom, then enjoying each other's company in a social aspect. Women in the same position are often treated entirely different, even in the modern world. When I worked in the corporate world, my male counterparts would enjoy a drink with each other or would go to play golf. Women in my corporate environment never received an invitation to these events. The differences seem minor, but how one group is treated compared to another is the opposite. 

Women in power have a hard time building trust for those underneath them. These people will often try and force a woman out, or they will try and raise themselves. Sabotage can and does happen to men, but the practice is more prevalent with women. 

It is hard to be a woman in power and keep the natural softness. We often have to be harder than the men we work with, in corporate settings. The inconsistency of expectation was one of the reasons why I chose to leave the corporate world. As a dominate woman working for myself provides me freedom. I can be in control but still, enjoy the soft side of myself. The person I was becoming through the pressure of the atmosphere was not a person I wanted to be. Reflecting all these years later and talking to other women who made the same decision, we all had the same type of interaction. Being a woman in power requires thick emotional skin, but the cost of developing carries significant sacrifice.
