Women need to back themselves more.
It's national Women Entrepreneurship day and in my opinion there are nowhere near enough female entrepreneurs! I was lucky enough to recently start working at a company with 55% females who are all unbelievably talented. Every single one of them is driven, inspiring and capable of being great. I imagine this is reflected across a lot of the female professional demographic.
So why aren't there an equal number of female entrepreneurs compared to men?
There are a couple of reasons:
- Women struggle to get funding for business ventures when compared to men with the same experience.
- Women historically have been told they can't achieve the same things that men can.
- Society tells women from a young age that taking charge makes them 'bossy' instead of a leader.
But I think the most important factor is that these incredible women, who could change the world, simply don't believe they can do it!
It makes me think 'what if'. If we taught young girls to believe they can do anything, if we gave them the same support to lead as we do to boys, if we gave them the same opportunity to progress as their male colleagues - maybe we would have a very different world.
I personally want to see more female entrepreneurs so that the world can see what these women are capable of.
Happy National Women Entrepreneurship day everyone.

6 年The whole women equal to men is becoming a bit tiring. As a society we have really only known about the lack of equality in workplaces for a few decades and a lot of work is being done to rectify this. When you look at a time line of events in human history a couple of decades is literally nothing so the amount that has changed in this regard is astounding. Yes there's still work to do but Angela Merkel & Theresa May; politically 2 of the most powerful jobs in Europe belong to women. There are a lot of women now in Fortune 500 companies who sit at the very top. Think about it; companies can't just sack men "because they're men and we want equality" that wouldn't be fair to the men in these positions therefore for us to achieve true equality will take longer but we are definitely on the right path. By declaring "mens day" or "national Women Entrepreneurship day" you are singling out a whole gender and by doing so giving more importance to them above the other gender which in turn isn't going to help bring equality. I'm not having a pop at you, you're merely only celebrating a day which I think makes very little sense!
