Women-led MSMEs in India increase 75% to 8.59 thousand units in FY22: Government data

The number of micro, small and medium-sized enterprises run by women in India rose significantly by more than 75 percent in FY22 to 8.59 thousand units, up from 4.9 units in the previous financial year, it was reported to Parliament on Thursday.

“While 4.9 thousand micro, small, and medium enterprises led by women were registered on the portal during the year 2020-2021, about 8.59 thousand micro, small and medium enterprises led by women were registered during the year 2021-22 (as of 28.03.2022)”, Minister of State for Small Affairs, Small and Medium Enterprises Bhanu Pratap Singh Verma said in a written reply to the Lok Sabha.

The government replaced the old filing of the Udyog Adhaar Memorandum to register Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in the Udyam Registry in July 2020." Verma said.

Moreover, as per the data available from the Reserve Bank of India, as of March 31, 2021, out of the total number of Rs 211.65 crore in registered commercial banks, Rs 70.64 crore belongs to account holders. The minister said in response.
