Women in Leadership shining a light on sustainable leadership

Women in Leadership shining a light on sustainable leadership

I had the great pleasure of attending an event this morning "CACC MELBOURNE Sustainable Leadership Breakfast", hosted by the Canadian Australian Chamber of Commerce, at the MinterEllison office.

Lesley Gillespie , Co-Founder of Bakers Delight, spoke about her amazing journey followed by the wonderful panel of women sharing insight into their leadership learnings at multiple levels.

?The panel consisted of:

  • Sarah Quigley Consul and Senior Trade Commissioner?Global Affairs Canada
  • Jaynaya Winmar CEO, Blakbone SistahoodManaging Director, Essential Services Australia Group
  • Liz Webb Chief Executive OfficerEMM Consulting Pty Ltd
  • Caroline Cox Chief Legal, Governance & External Affairs OfficerBHP

?My key takeaways in leadership which they shared included:

  • As a leader, genuinely listen to the team; don't just see the positive Veneer, look deeper at what is going on, so that change is warranted, it can occur
  • When overloaded or challenged, try to instil routines, including opportunities to reground yourself
  • Be willing to be vulnerable on bad days; we all have them, and normalising it helps others
  • Increase engagement by enabling autonomy, encouraging mastery and providing a clear intent (purpose)
  • Encourage discussion and co-creation
  • Transparency builds trust; share objectives and metrics, even if they are not achieved. Doing so can be counter-intuitive, yet it shows that the challenge is accepted and an opportunity to reflect and adapt is present

Thank you all for a great start to the day.
