Leadership Insights - What’s New in the World of Work
Women leaders in automotive? Yes!
There are so many misconceptions about career opportunities for women in the automotive sector. Following Gi Group Holding’s participation in the Women Automotive Network Summit in Stuttgart, Germany this year and the publication of our 2024 Global Automotive HR Trends report at the end of October, it became clear that more messaging and communications need to focus on why women are needed and can thrive in the industry.
So far, discussions of future roles for young women in the sector haven’t really taken place, and there is also seemingly limited access to STEM courses and specialised training that would prepare them for industry roles. Currently, we have backward trends where young women’s interest in learning tech skills and other STEM disciplines is falling.

Logistics businesses need more women to support future growth
In reporting shared at the start of this year, the Gi Group Holding team noted that there was massive underrepresentation of women in the Logistics sector. In Europe, countries like Germany and Poland reported that under one-quarter of new roles filled went to women. Outside of Europe this figure falls even further to 9% in Brazil and below 1% in China, per International Labour Organization (ILO) data.
Meanwhile, the main barrier to more women seeking roles in the sector appears to involve misconceptions about what industry careers involve. CLO-INTWIG research describes a typical logistics worker as "a 36-year-old male with a lower level of education". Meanwhile, there are many new career paths that women could excel in related to use of technologies, process management and operations, and even product/system design and marketing.

Can an image makeover bring more women to the Manufacturing Sector?
A study by Gi Group Holding published in early 2023 pointed out that women remain underrepresented in the manufacturing industry. According to statistics from the World Economic Forum (WEF) and the World Manufacturing Foundation, women comprise only 30% of all employees in the sector. Of this group, 33% work in junior-level roles, 24% as mid-level staff, 15% at senior level, and only 9% serve in industry CEO roles worldwide.
Per our report, key barriers to recruiting more women for roles in the manufacturing industry derive mainly from long-standing stereotypes. Fortunately, Gi Group Holding data shows that 83% of manufacturing businesses plan to hire more women in the next five years and 39% believe that this will happen due to a more open mindset when it comes to recruiting female employees. 35% say women hires will be boosted by investment into and the incentivising of women’s access to education in STEM disciplines.

Time for a reboot: finding new ways to close the gender gap
Lots of interesting analytical material on the gender gap and women’s career development has come through the pipeline this year, with the annual Gender Gap Report published by the World Economic Forum , recommendations from the United Nations ' Regional Cooperation Council, 麦肯锡 ’s Women in the Workplace report and more.
However, most of these texts show that efforts to close the gender gap in terms of access to equal pay, career development opportunities, and promotion to senior leadership roles has slowed considerably. New initiatives must be put in place to change the current status quo (and its stagnation) such as peer-to-peer support among women and investment in educational and communication programmes that demonstrate how businesses benefit from gender diversity and other forms of diversity in management and leadership teams at all levels.

I can hear from everywhere around me there is a lack of engineers in EU while corporates do not want to hire women at the age of 55+ while MEN do not have problems at all .... corporates do not want to hire the woman despite she has a lot of experiences and knowledge acquired in huge MedTech corporates during 25 years of her work for them.
Remember ,beautiful and succesfully leader is who hiring me ??
