Sabrina Koleo, an athlete with passion for wellness. After going through her own health journey, she realized how amazing our bodies are capabilities of feeling and how many people accept having high levels of stress and low energy levels as normal. Sabrina wanted to create an easy way for people to access a plan to optimize their physical and mental health through nutrition, recipes, supplementation, mindfulness, movement and herbal remedies. This is how an idea for Turnip The Beets was born in 2017. All consults are over the phone so that no one’s worrying about commuting to another appointment and they can feel as if they're chatting with a friend.?
What inspired you to start your own business?
I think many of us just get stuck and accept feeling average when it comes to our health. Our stress is high, energy is low and we are jumping on every new health trend without really knowing how to piece it all together so that we can truly thrive. After going through my own health journey, I realized how amazing our body is capable of feeling and I wanted to show others that they don’t have accept feeling just “okay” anymore. I wanted inspire people to transform their health from the inside out, without extreme dieting or restrictions. It’s more of a realistic and holistic approach.
What were some of the biggest challenges you faced when starting your business?
When you’re starting out, there isn’t a manual and you have to figure things out as you go. From learning how to design a website, marketing yourself, learning social media, bookkeeping etc, you have to wear all the hats at the beginning which is very humbling.?
The other challenge is having friends or family that can’t see your vision and who may put your ideas down. You quickly learn how to quiet the noise and focus on what you know you’re capable of creating.
How did you come up with the idea for your business??
I’ve always liked being of service to people, have a huge passion for wellness and had the opportunity to work alongside a Naturopath in my late teens which opened my eyes to the power of alternative medicine. I wanted to create an easy way to help people feel incredible without creating additional stress to their lives. All my consults are over the phone so that no one’s worrying about commuting to another appointment and they can feel as if they're chatting with a friend.?
What sets your business apart from others in your industry??
My approach has always been laid back and focuses on celebrating the small wins. I have the ability to connect with each client, and I’m always there for the journey, whether they need to ask me a question or just want to share how great they feel, I’m always a text away. My clients feel supported, encouraged and never judged when they are working through challenges, which is huge! They know I genuinely care about their success and want to see them thrive. I also have a competitive fitness background and kinesiology degree which allows me to incorporate holistic nutrition with fitness for a truly transformational approach.
How do you balance running a business with other responsibilities in your life??
领英推荐
I wake up most mornings around 5am so that I have some solo time in the morning to work on myself whether that’s through journaling, reading, walking the dog or incorporating other forms of movement. Learning how to delegate has been helpful as well so that I’m using my energy for the things that I excel most at.
What advice would you give to other men/women who are thinking about starting their own business??
If it’s something you love, take the leap. Be patient with the process because it does take time, but time will pass regardless. Take small steps everyday towards your goal and don’t let other people’s doubt in your vision make you doubt yourself. If you truly want it bad enough, you can make it happen.
How do you stay motivated during tough times in your business??
I used to stress and worry when there were lulls in my schedule, but learned after a few years to embrace the slow times. Those are the moments that you can get creative, take courses and work on other aspects of the business that you normally don’t have time for. If you’re providing good quality service/product you don’t need to worry when things slow down – you’ll always have customers.?
What has been your biggest achievement so far in your business??
Hitting my first 6 figure year was a big milestone for me especially because the business I built is something that I LOVE doing. I get to share my passion for nutrition and wellness to make a positive impact on people's lives. I’d also have to say reaching over 150, 5 Star Google Reviews that are filled with genuine messages from my clients truly brings so much joy and is a big deal for me.
How do you measure success in your business?
?If my clients are thriving and are happy, I know I’m doing something right!
What is your long-term vision for your business??
I’d love to continue to expand my reach and help as many people as possible. I’m looking to create more group programs and at some point combine my love for travel, food and health with hosting wellness retreats with my sister in Greece! Maybe a cookbook, online cooking show, who knows! The opportunities are endless and I’m excited to see where
