Women hardest hit by 'always on' work culture, a quarter of Brits lie about their finances, and more top insights

Workplace stress is increasingly affecting the health of female employees, according to global health service company Cigna. The survey of 13,000 people over 23 markets revealed 84% of people believed they suffered from stress, with 13% unable to manage. The “always on” work culture, accelerated by smartphone use, was a key factor for women aged 35 to 49 with childcare responsibilities and elderly parents: 87% say they are stressed at work, with 64% claiming pressure to answer emails at night and on weekends. Here's what people are saying.

Does your future hold a new job, partnership or early retirement? A new quantum device that can predict alternate realities may hold the answer (well, sort of). Scientists have created a complex computer that can simulate 16 different timelines for most photons or packets of light. They say the device harnesses some of the most mysterious parts of our understanding of the universe to allow us to peek at different futures, measuring how much our bias towards a specific choice in the present impacts the future. Here's what people are saying.

A quarter of British adults have lied to family and friends about their personal finances, a study has found. The poll of 2,806 adults found that despite 60% believing it is important to know your partner’s financial status before committing to them, 11% lied about their debt and 23% misled their partner about money in general leading to 37% having fights about finances. The study, commissioned by Lloyds Bank, also found 14% lied about the amount spent on a single item. Here's what people are saying.

Fostering an inclusive work environment can lead to higher satisfaction, innovation, trust and retention. After noticing high turnover rates in the U.S. non-profit sector, researchers from Binghamton University partnered with a large non-profit hospital in Los Angeles to study leader engagement, inclusion, innovation, job satisfaction and perceived quality of care. Leaders who sought input from workers, regardless of job position, educational background or job responsibilities, were more likely to increase feelings of inclusion. Here's what people are saying.

Top-performing staff are great for the bottom line, but if their behavior is considered “toxic”, it can be a risk to their team, reveals a senior HR executive. Addressing consistent negative comments and criticism is essential for managers to determine if an employee has not understood the organisation’s values, is unhappy or perhaps simply isn’t the right fit. There are several ways to determine if a potential employee will be a toxic hire, including displays of boasting, self-promotion and negative commentary on previous workplaces. Here's what people are saying.

Idea of the Day: Many of us stress about job interviews and the hiring process, only to take our foot off the gas once we get in the door, says entrepreneur and businessman James Caan.

"During the first days, weeks and months, remember that you’re still on trial. Your managers will be closely assessing your progress. Hit the deck running: listen, learn and contribute. You’ll make the person who appointed you look great, and you’ll feel great too."

Women with children, especially small children, can feel financial pressure to help support their partner with family bills, competitive pressure to be the equal she so deserves to be in the work environment, the physical pressure of keeping the house a home and the emotional pressure of also being a 'mum.'? They have to weigh up and decide if their career can go on hold whilst having a child, to go back to work early and feel guilty as a parent, or stay at home and potentially lose their place on the ladder.? Then as a woman gets older, her children may need her less but the elderly parents may need more and then the menopause kicks in and SOME women then feel exhausted, sweaty, unable to concentrate and feel that all their fight through the above is all about to be for nothing.? No wonder women are stressed!? However, Stress isn't discriminatory, and so businesses should look out for the signs, provide EAP, employee a Mental Health First Aider and yes Jonathan Frankel, allow employees the time away from work (completely) to recharge their batteries.

Always on culture, costs a company far more money in the long run, best to give people real time off, making sure they switch off their emails too.? Constantly hiring new people to replace those who are burnt out costs far more than giving employees decent time away from work to relax.

None of the media comments, nor writes about the great affects most working married women have on their families and on society Twitter "These women need to wake up Not only do they have little or no love and care to bring up their own children, as they much prefering to work often doing a job most often done by a married man with children, now they cast all of the feminine frustrations at their own President too" When you count how many single men and women are out of work or doing a job well below their qualifications, due to married woman working, who have hardly seen their own chdrem grow up Combined with far too many unfit women becoming single parents, you will know why the family unit, with the elderly included, are the foundation of all societies has been disseminated and diluted, as to become of insignificance to the so called, modern way of life Throuought man's history, all societies destroy themselves when most advanced, at an alarming speed Just as we are all destroying our home, called planet earth On moving to Lonfom in 2004/5, stepping out of the station, you could see the grey smog in the sky and smell the poison in tthe air After 6 momths you are forced to accept the life threatrning conditions

In Construction 'always on' is expected, combined with open hostility abd inability to talk about errors makes it toxic place to work. It requires lots od courage and humility to bring people together and focus them on solutions not blame. It us worth ut though
