Women in CyberSecurity (WiCyS) Launches 5th Annual Security Training Scholarship (STS) Program with SANS Institute

We’re excited to announce the 5th annual Security Training Scholarship (STS) Program in partnership with the SANS Institute! This initiative is made possible by WiCyS Tier 1 Partners and Premiere Supporters such as Craig Newmark Philanthropies , the Center for Internet Security , and Bloomberg.

Why It Matters:

The cybersecurity industry faces a global shortage of nearly 4 million professionals. With the U.S. alone needing to fill almost 500,000 open roles, this poses significant security risks. The STS program helps bridge this gap by providing underrepresented individuals a pathway into cybersecurity careers.

Program Highlights:

  • Partnership with SANS: The program offers skills development opportunities and advanced cybersecurity training for WiCyS members.

  • Multi-Tiered Process: Participants progress through stages of the program, based on performance, and receive hands-on training to build their expertise.

  • Inclusive Cohorts: Each stage includes mentoring and peer support to foster a strong, diverse community.

  • Specialized tracks for veterans and military spouses: WiCyS honors the contributions of veterans and military spouses to cybersecurity with two specialized tracks, offering tailored support services including mentorship, career placement assistance, access to the Military Affiliate and travel stipends for the WiCyS conference.
  • Proven Results: Over the last four years, 3,000+ participants have gained cyber skills, and 183 scholars have received advanced training. 100% career placement within 12 months of program completion for job seekers.

A Career-Changing Opportunity:

For individuals like Christine Morency, an STS alumnus who transitioned from physical therapy to cybersecurity, this program is life-changing. Christine, now a Senior Cloud Security Specialist at Merck, credits WiCyS for helping her find a fulfilling new career. Read more about here story here.

Interested in a cybersecurity career? Learn more about the STS program and apply today! Applications close on August 30th. Together, we can close the cybersecurity gap and create a more diverse, secure world.
