Sometimes it feels like no matter how hard you try, you’re not making progress - or any money. Your inner voice starts up telling you horrible stuff like ‘you’re not trying hard enough, you need to put more hours in’.
It can feel like you are trapped in the waiting room with all the things you have ever wanted on the other side of the door. They are so close but just out of reach.
At times like this it’s tempting to get on and take action. You get your notebook out and start coming up with a new strategy. You decide to do some marketing, or redo your website (again) or rebrand your business. After all, you really want what’s on the other side of that door. You’re in control of your destiny. If you want it, you have to get it.
You tell yourself what you’ve been told all your life: work hard, get rewarded. So you go at yourself again and you make yourself shake things up and try harder.
At the same time, there’s another part of your brain which is resisting. It says, ‘I don’t want to, why are you being so mean to me? I just want to stay in bed and watch Netflix, and I’ll probably eat this entire bag of crisps while I do it.’ This is the most unmotivated, defensive, self-sabotaging version of yourself.
You’re in conflict with yourself. Top dog demands more from you while the underdog is reaching for the TV remote.
Underdog wins every time.
That doesn’t mean you are stuck in the waiting room and never get to open the door to all you ever wanted though.
Going for a big action plan without doing the mindset work first is setting yourself up for failure. When you try to achieve the things you want to in your business by always pushing harder, or just taking action without engaging with your emotions at all, it’s like trying to drive a steam roller over your subconscious and it very rarely works.

But if you stop trying to block out the messages you’re receiving internally because of your mindset, and actually engage with them instead, you can create big shifts in your business and feel completely different without actually doing anything at all.
Let me know in the comments, what’s your favourite show on Netflix?
Free Report - The Six Elements of a Seven Figure Consulting Business
I've created a free PDF report called The Six Elements of a Seven Figure Business.?It’s my most popular free resource and in it I outline the 6 areas of unscaled businesses that need to change in order to move past being ‘booked up and burned out’ and shifting into that higher gear that gets you cruising again.
It’s the framework that helps consultant women like you find their feet and get back to leading the business, rather than being buried in client work and back-end business operations.

2 年So weird. I had a dream about a waiting room last night. I quite enjoyed Lucifer. And it’s not on Netflix but Yellowstone and the Mayor of Kingstown are both really good. Taylor Sheridan is a phenomenal writer.
