Women in Construction Week: Working Moms at Granite

March 12th is National Working Moms Day. In honor of the occasion and our ongoing recognition of Women in Construction Week, hear from some mothers at Granite about what a construction career has meant to them.
"As a working mom, dealing with schedules can be a challenge, but I am able to use the mix of on-site versus in-office days to have more flexibility for my family. I really enjoy the heavy civil projects I get to work on, like sitework, paving, and building bridges. I love getting to spend (most of) my days outside!"
"I am grateful to my managers who have provided me opportunities to strive to make the best materials and projects for our communities; however, my managers’ support for helping me to balance work and family is what keeps me at Granite.?In turn, as a manager, I try to support the development of my team members while allowing them to be their most authentic selves."
"Granite is a big name in the industry, but when I interact with my coworkers I feel that my work is appreciated and I feel loved as a person. Granite has allowed me to attend to my kids without my coworkers making me feel like my family is a burden.?I feel guilty when I have to take time off and my supervisors push back and remind me that everyone has family.?I feel so supported working at Granite and it makes me want to do my best for Granite."?
