Women in Construction Week 2024 Spotlight: Kinzzie Caskey

What attracted you to the construction industry and how did you get started?

I actually started out in college! My internship was at a construction company, and I took the job once I graduated. I started out in accounting/marketing department, but always found construction industry really interesting! With Project Management, I feel like I contribute real work/results to help the project along. I really like challenging society’s norms by being a woman in a man’s industry.

What is your favorite part about working in the construction industry?

There is a great deal of satisfaction you get when you see a large successful project. The guy’s onsite do not treat me any different, and there is always new something to learn. It is really a volatile industry.

In your opinion, what impact do/can women have in the construction industry?

Diversity is great for business! There is also a level of support you will receive from a woman colleague that you may not always receive from a man. We are paving the way for future generations of female construction workers and can really show that this is not solely a man’s industry.

What advice would you give to young women just starting their careers in the construction industry?

Try to not focus on the fact you are different simply because you are female. You are capable of showing your skills, abilities and proving your worth. You can do anything you set your mind to. Never let anyone tell you anything different.
