What attracted you to the industry and how did you get started?

My family owned a construction company for 25 years, so I grew up going to job sites, learning about different equipment, and seeing all the moving parts that went with it. I got started in the industry by working for a residential company and quickly learned that this was something I really enjoyed. Every day was a new challenge. At the time, I was the only woman that worked in sales and having the opportunity to represent and make a difference was something I knew was right for me and for future women.

What is your favorite part about working in the industry?

My favorite part about working in the industry is the connections that I have made. In my job, I travel to our outer offices and collaborate with all levels of personnel. Since I have only been in the industry for a couple years now, it is nice to learn from someone that has been here 20 plus years and can share how they have been successful. I have been able to implement what they have taught me, and it has helped me make an impact at MSS.

In your opinion, what impact do/can women have in the industry?

Women can bring a balance in the workforce, as well as new perspectives to the table. I believe the sky is the limit for anyone that wants to make a difference in this industry. There is always room for growth. A mentor once told me, “Your impact is not measured by gender it is measured by talent and effort.”

What advice would you give to young women just starting their careers in the industry?

Advice I would give to young women that are just starting in their careers is to absorb as much as you can from your peers. Develop relationships within different departments of the company, especially if you work closely with them. If there is an opportunity to work on a project, jump in and don’t be afraid to make mistakes or ask questions. It will make a difference in the long run.?
