Women Business Collaborative Newsletter - October 2024

WBC is an unprecedented alliance of 85+ partner organizations and hundreds of business leaders building a movement to achieve equal position, pay, and power for all women in business.

Dear WBC Community,

As we enter October, we're catching our breath after September's whirlwind, highlighted by our incredible Action for Impact (A4I) Summit . Your participation and support made it a resounding success—thank you! This month, we're also celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month and Cybersecurity Awareness Month through our partnerships and programs.

Our A4I Summit was another milestone event, marking WBC's 5th anniversary. With over 3,000 registrants, 65 top-tier speakers, 7 outstanding honorees receiving our CEO and Trailblazer awards, and launched the 2024 Women CEOs in America Report , it powerfully demonstrated our shared commitment to advancing women and gender equity in business. A special shout-out also goes to our A4I closing reception guests at the National Press Club, including National Press Club President President Emily Wilkins and our stellar panelists: Briana Scurry, Kate Greenberg, Chryssa Zizos, and moderator Lesley Visser. Missed a panel? No worries! You can catch all our panels on the WBC A4I webpage .

For Cybersecurity Awareness Month, we're spotlighting women's leadership in this critical field on #WBCFasterTogether. We recently chatted with Joyce Hunter from Mission Critical , and this week we're looking forward to insights on women’s executive leadership in the field from Ariel Weintraub, CISO at Aon . Women's leadership is pivotal in cybersecurity, especially to protect critical infrastructure and as we navigate AI and other emerging technologies in our workplaces.

In honor of Hispanic Heritage Month, we're applauding our partners advancing Latinx communities, including Latin Insights , Latina Style , Latino Corporate Directors Association , Hispanic IT Executive Council (HITEC) , and the Hispanic Association for Corporate Responsibility (HACR) . We're proud to have supported HACR's Walk to Wall Street initiative and congratulate Cid Wilson and the HACR team on their impactful 240+ mile journey from Capitol Hill to Wall Street, championing diversity, equity, and inclusion in Corporate America.

As we regroup post-Summit, we're more committed than ever to our core mission: connecting outstanding women and building strong coalitions with our corporate sponsors, partners, and Champion Network to drive gender equity in business forward.

Thank you for your ongoing support and engagement. Here's to making steady progress and change together!

Warm regards,

Gwen K. Young

CEO, WBC

Gender Fair

Amy Willard Cross, Founder of Gender Fair, published an article in TIME on the FEMALE DOMESTIC PRODUCT. Read here: https://time.com/7022055/female-wealth-gap-essay/

As the Harris campaign fires up, women are flexing their political —and financial —muscles. The first video-rally of Black women raised $1.8 M, followed by $8.5 raised by White Women For Harris. Then came Hype Women, Latinas, and “Childless cat ladies”--adding 380K to the kitty. The US political system is feeling women's economic might. It’s just a fraction of the Female Domestic Product, which if unleashed fully, could create real change.?

An entirely new acronym, the FDP represents ALL monies that women control. The FDP includes capital, salaries, hourly wages, donations to women’s nonprofit organizations, revenues of women-owned businesses, companies owned by women, women’s VC or angel funds and pensions--including the $3 trillion held by teachers.? Like unpaid care labor, it goes uncounted--and underleveraged.

Latino Corporate Directors Association

The Latino Corporate Directors Association (LCDA) announces the release of the 2024 Latino Board Monitor , highlighting incremental progress in Latino representation on Fortune 500 and Fortune 1000 boards. Over the past four years, Latino representation on Fortune 1000 boards has increased by 1.85%, rising from 3.2% to 5.05%, marking the most significant progress to date. Despite these gains, Latinos remain the most underrepresented demographic in corporate boardrooms—a concerning gap, given their rapidly growing influence in the US economy, with a GDP of $3.6 trillion .

Joyce Hunter

You have heard me talk about #NABDA lately. It stands for the North American Bio Economy Data Alliance. Come join us October 2nd for a quick webinar to find out what it's all about and the urgencies that lie behind the need to understand, appreciate and validate the #biomassdata sets necessary for the generation of an efficient #biomass buying/selling models. NABDA is a new coalition formed with US and Canadian representatives, given our strong trade relations, meant to do the heavy lifting of (1) pulling together the various owners of current/disparate biomass data sets, (2) identifying data of value at the production, transportation, processing and end use stages, (3) then managing the tooling/instrumentation used to measure new data sets and generate standards of practice that the value chain can adhere to, in an effort to optimize the economics that underpin current processes that are less than profitable, fairly arduous and unclear to many.?

Please join if it's of interest to you and the work you do.?

Hope to see you on October 2nd at 1pm EDT!
