Women in business celebrated on International Women’s Day

Every year on 8th March, International Women’s Day shines a beacon for women on a global scale to be recognised for their achievements – giving a voice to those who, even only a generation ago, would have gone completely unheard. It raises awareness about discrimination and takes action to drive gender parity, with this year’s theme being #EmbraceEquity. IWD wants to start the conversation about how equality doesn’t always go far enough, so in 2023 it’s all about understanding the difference between equality and equity.

?

Equality is giving everyone the same opportunities with a one-size-fits-all ideology, however this doesn’t always go far enough. As everyone is so different from each other, one set of standard items will not bring everyone the same outcome. Equality is like giving everyone the same bike, but true equity is giving everyone a bike that differs in size to specifically suit the individual person based on their height and build, so that they can ride it to its full advantage. Equality is the goal (everyone on a suitable bike, having an equally fulfilling ride), and equity is the means to get there.?

?

The more improvements that are implemented to make the workplace a level playing field, then the more women proactively want to forge their own career paths within these inclusive and welcoming industries, and in turn are able to take control of their professional success. Flexibility can also open up many avenues to allow talented women into the workplace when in the past these women would have felt the need to choose between family commitments and career progression. This can include job sharing, part-time jobs, remote working, affordable childcare, paid family leave, and flexible start and end times.

?

As International Women’s Day resonates with more people, movement and progression is being made for the better within the workplace when it comes to women’s rights and equal opportunities. Evolve Business Solutions is listening to this conversation and understands the value of being an inclusive, diverse and progressive workplace.?

We have three successful and talented women who work for us here at Evolve and we wouldn’t dream of losing the skills and motivation they bring to the business by not being inclusive or accommodating. We’re taking today as an excellent excuse to sing their praises and champion all they do for us as a business!
