Women In Bio opens applications for 2023 Boardroom Ready Program

Women participating in decision-making spaces has always been a struggle and continues to be a work in progress, despite huge advancements in diversity, equity and inclusion. A 2021 study found that although 58% of biotech companies surveyed had a woman on the board, women overall represented around 10% of all board members.

Women In Bio is dedicated to building up a community of women equipped with the knowledge and skills to serve on boards of public and private companies. Since its inception in 2016, the Boardroom Ready Program has seen 126 graduates and 125 board placements and has served as a catalyst for connecting great candidates to great companies. Executive Women In Bio Chair Shehnaaz Suliman sat down with the San Francisco Business Times last year to talk about the importance of the Boardroom Ready Program and the overall effort to get more women in board seats — the goal is to become a resource for women who want to be on boards but aren't ready, prepare them, and connect them with the right people and companies.

Boardroom Ready is a highly selective program for C-suite executives with substantive experience within the life sciences industry. Boardroom Ready women must be collaborative, have a strong interest in serving as a board director, and be willing to be a resource for other women in the program. WIB is building an inclusive community where diversity is celebrated and everyone pitches in to serve others.
