A Woman’s Guide to Super Bowl LIX

Super Bowl Sunday is right around the corner, and whether you’re a die-hard football fan, a casual watcher, or just here for the snacks and commercials, we’ve got you covered! This year’s Super Bowl LIX will take place on Sunday, February 9th, in New Orleans at the Caesars Superdome, featuring a showdown between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles.

Now, let’s break down everything you need to know—from the teams to the drama to the basics of the game—so you can confidently enjoy the biggest sporting event of the year.

Why Is Everyone Talking About This Super Bowl?

The Kansas City Chiefs are the reigning champions, having won the last two Super Bowls (2023 & 2024). They’ve now made it to the big game six times, winning four championships. But their dominance has made them one of the most loved AND hated teams in the league—many people are ready to see them lose.

The Philadelphia Eagles, on the other hand, have only won one Super Bowl (2018). But here’s an interesting fact: every time they’ve played for the championship, they’ve won—so their fans are hopeful they’ll keep that streak alive!

The Players Everyone Is Talking About

Kansas City Chiefs?

Patrick Mahomes (Quarterback) – The star of the team, Mahomes has led the Chiefs to three Super Bowl wins (2020, 2023, 2024). However, he’s also controversial, with some accusing him of benefiting from referee favoritism. His family’s social media antics don’t help either!

Travis Kelce (Tight End) – Kelce is not only a key player on the field but also Taylor Swift’s boyfriend. Their relationship has brought tons of new fans to football, and some NFL watchers even joke that the league is “rigged” in favor of the Chiefs because of him.

Philadelphia Eagles?

Jalen Hurts (Quarterback) – Aside from being incredibly talented, Hurts is admired for his leadership and all-women management team, proving he supports women in sports.

Saquon Barkley (Running Back) – Barkley went viral this season after pulling off a backward hurdle over a defender (yes, that’s as insane as it sounds). He’s fast, powerful, and will be a key player to watch.

Football Basics (So You Can Actually Follow the Game)

If you’re not sure how football works, don’t worry—you’re not alone! Here are the essentials:

The Goal – Move the ball down the field and score more points than the other team.

Game Time – There are four 15-minute quarters with a halftime break in the middle. This year’s halftime show features Kendrick Lamar, and there’s buzz that SZA might make an appearance!

Scoring:

Touchdown (6 points) – When a player carries or catches the ball in the end zone.

Extra Point (1 or 2 points) – After a touchdown, teams can kick for 1 point or try another play for 2 points (two-point conversion).

Field Goal (3 points) – If a team can’t reach the end zone, they can kick the ball through the goalposts for 3 points.

How It Works:

Each team has four tries (downs) to move the ball 10 yards.

If they succeed, they get a new set of downs to keep going.

If they fail, they can punt (kick) the ball to the other team or attempt a field goal.

How to Enjoy the Super Bowl (Even If You Don’t Care About Football)

The Halftime Show – The Super Bowl halftime show is always a spectacle. This year’s performer, Kendrick Lamar, is set to put on an unforgettable performance.

Commercials – Companies spend millions on these ads, and they’re often hilarious, emotional, or just straight-up weird. Expect some celebrity cameos and Taylor Swift-related ads this year!

Food & Drinks – Super Bowl Sunday is an elite snacking holiday. Think wings, nachos, dips, and themed cocktails. No one will judge you if you're just there for the food!

Taylor Swift Watch – Let’s be real, a lot of people will be tuning in just to catch glimpses of Taylor cheering on Travis Kelce from a VIP suite. Expect plenty of cutaways to her reactions.

The Drama – Whether it’s wild fan reactions, heated player rivalries, or questionable referee calls, something always happens that gets social media buzzing.

Whether you’re watching for the game, the halftime show, the commercials, or just to see Taylor Swift, the Super Bowl is an experience. Now that you know the basics, you can enjoy it however you want—without feeling lost.

So grab your snacks, pick a team (or just cheer for good vibes), and have fun watching Super Bowl LIX!?
