Woman's day ????

This piece was supposed to be about women in IT but given the current events in Ukraine and Europe we’re going to write about women in the here and now instead.

We’ve been seeing images of women fleeing from Ukraine with their children for several days now, and this is not something anyone can witness without feeling deeply emotional. After all, we are parents, too, and have friends and families of our own. All countries stand united in action, regardless of their political expectations. Multitudes of people are trying to help in any way they can. We collect money, invite refugees to our homes, provide office spaces for accommodation, help bring people over, and stand watch at the border – all of this fuelled by a feeling of helplessness and signals from deep inside telling us that we need to mobilise and do something.

Shimi has prepared its offices to receive guests from the Ukraine. They can stay for a while, gather their thoughts, and consider their options. At the moment, we have a family of 8 staying with us, and we are looking for accommodation for them as you are reading these words. There is also a collection going, and all of our people are involved in the effort to help. Together, we can do it.

Ukrainian men are forced to fight for their country’s freedom. The women, wives and mothers, are fleeing to save their lives. Fear of harm awakens what’s best in us and empowers us to act. When you organise collections of all sorts of things and open your door to see those busy mums with glowing faces, it truly warms your heart – women are keeping things together in a multitude of. Let all these efforts to help be felt where that’s really needed, quicker and better…

These women are starting a new chapter with their kids. Having spent hours on the road, at the border, in the cold, they finally arrive here, and this is where we have a part to play…

??let’s look after them all like we look after ourselves

??listen to their needs

??provide what they ask for and give them a lot of warmth

??ask your friends if they can help

??at work, ask your leaders what you can do to help, and if you can give a job to someone who needs it or recommend people for a position

??educate your children to approach their peers from other countries (including those from Russia and Belarus) with tact and understanding

??get in touch with Foundations and NGOs that know how to help

WOMEN, GIRLS – let’s give our all, and let our men support us! It’s in our genes!

Here’s some important info that might come in handy to women with kids, as well as other people in need:
