As August unfolds with the spirit of Women's Month, we take a moment to recognise the outstanding commitments made by Freshly Minced and the commendable bridge-building efforts of Bruce Lucas. Freshly Minced, under the visionary leadership of its founder Darren Hayward, has taken the commendable step of launching an empowerment deal. This deal celebrates the resilience, determination, and skill of its black women employees and stands as a beacon of gender equity and empowerment in our nation. The Intsika Trust, now holding a substantial 30% stake in Freshly Minced, is a shining example of corporate commitment to transformative growth.

Darren Hayward's words resonate deeply: "This deal is not about ticking boxes. It is in the company’s best interest that this deal is successful because our diversity as a business enables us to deliver the very best to our clients.”

We are equally enthused to learn about the promising journey of Gcobisa Mashishi, Production Manager at Freshly Minced and a trustee of Intsika. The deal marks a significant chapter in her professional journey and is emblematic of the positive change Freshly Minced aims to foster.

Moreover, Freshly Minced's initiative to fund the tuition for eleven learners via RIMS is heartwarming. Especially significant is their decision to include five learners with disabilities, thereby emphasising the importance of inclusive education and addressing one of the most marginalised groups in South Africa.
