As high achievers we push ourselves – diet, exercise, work, hobbies – whatever we do we want to do it 1000%.
I was reading an article in the news recently where people were sharing their survival tips for the next phase of covid life on lockdown. And one of the things that kept coming up was people saying they wanted to be less hard on themselves this time around, and that’s a really important thing that I think we can all take note of.
We put ourselves under so much pressure to be productive, but if there’s one thing the pandemic has taught us it’s that it’s ok to go at a slower pace.
Several of my clients have told me this year that they actually prefer the way their business feels during lockdown because it’s made things simpler.
They are aware they have less energy and emotional resources, so they’ve made the money they want to by raising their prices and doing less work but at a higher level. It really works!
And it’s an important lesson we need to take stock of.
One small thing I’ve started to do to look after myself better is when I have a packed schedule or something outside of my comfort zone, I’ll use an intensive conditioner on my hair that morning or add in a face mask to my morning routine so I feel extra ‘cared for’. I’ll use the fancy moisturiser instead of the everyday brand. And I’m sending my body the message that ‘I know this will demand more from you, so I’m willing to put in more to make that easier’.
I’ve learned that I don’t get the best from myself by pushing myself or piling on the pressure. If you want to show up as the best version of yourself you need to be able to show yourself compassion, acceptance, even nurture.
Operating at your optimum level doesn’t just happen. It can take a lot out of you. And if you think about it, that’s why it’s so important as the CEO of your business that you don’t let yourself get bogged down with all the day to day elements of running the business. It will take energy that you need to be reserving for the things that ONLY you can do.
Let me know in the comments, have you changed your business model due to lockdown?
Free Report - The Six Elements of a Seven Figure Consulting Business
I've created a free PDF report called The Six Elements of a Seven Figure Business. It’s my most popular free resource and in it I outline the 6 areas of unscaled businesses that need to change in order to move past being ‘booked up and burned out’ and shifting into that higher gear that gets you cruising again.
It’s the framework that helps consultant women like you find their feet and get back to leading the business, rather than being buried in client work and back-end business operations.
