Women’s Business Council promotes participation and leadership of women at all levels
Rachel Malik is a disruptor. Her business Rachel Malik International was born from her experience working for several Fortune 500 companies in the U.K. and after a move to the U.S. and witnessing missed opportunities in the workforce, she saw the need for enriched trainings and associated value for new employees.? In her experience, companies work so hard to get someone in the door but then not work as hard to keep the new employee. She found it to be baffling.? She felt strongly that she could be the conduit in organizations to tackle retention.
Rachel said what she loves most about what she does as a coach is that she occupies a privileged position to see into the way people’s minds work – “the most rewarding thing is seeing the shift/progress in my clients!”
What have you gained from being a member of the Women’s Business Council?
I have joined a community of women who encourage me to think about how I can make a difference – it’s such a supportive environment.
What is the best advice you have ever received?
Don’t take yourself out of the race. Something my coach said to me ... if I’m scared to do something and don’t take action, I’m already living in the worst-case scenario. Take the risk and send that email.
Why did you start Rachel Malik International?
I saw a gap to tackle retention of young professionals in a much more targeted way. Utilizing my currency of experience, coaching qualifications and tenure at Fortune 500 companies (PepsiCo, Hallmark, P&G), I believe I have a winning formula!
Who inspires you?
My sister has lymphedema and it was a real challenge to find a diagnosis. She is determined to not let it stop her and lives her life looking for the positive in every situation. Her ability to maintain this mindset inspires me.

What advice would you give to someone who wants to enter your field?
Be clear on your purpose. Coaching at its core is about asking questions that prompt new thinking for a client, not (as is more commonly thought) offering advice. However, there is a huge role mentors can play when it comes to utilizing experience and knowledge – so be clear on the impact you want to have!
What’s one thing — either industry-related or not — you learned in the last month?
Patience. Understanding the pace of business in the Capital Region is based on connection. People need time to get to know you, your background and intentions.
What is your favorite hobby?
I love to travel. Recently I have been spending more time in the Middle East and it’s quickly becoming my favorite spot.
What’s one item you can’t live without?
My phone – I have family and friends all over the world so Facetime is a real gift.
