Woke as Hell, Backed by the Blue: A Fiery Ethical Tightrope

Dear Best of LinkedIn Reader,

In a world hell-bent on polarizing every issue into a binary choice, I’m here to tell you that it's not only possible to be woke and support the police—it’s necessary.

The woke crowd loves to preach empathy, equality, and justice, but here’s the rub: empathy isn’t just for the oppressed; it’s for everyone—including those who protect us from the wolves at the door.

Empathy or Naivety? The Razor-Thin Edge

Empathy without boundaries is a road to chaos.

We can’t pretend that every person who commits a crime just needs a hug.

Some folks are beyond kindness, and that’s where the thin blue line steps in.

When you support the police, you're not selling out; you’re recognizing that some wolves don’t respond to reason, they respond to the law.

Remember Romans 13:4: “For the one in authority is God's servant for your good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for rulers do not bear the sword for no reason.” When you strip away the layers, the police are the sword that keeps the wolves at bay. They aren’t saints, but they’re necessary, and pretending otherwise is na?ve at best, deadly at worst.

The Woke Movement: A Dose of Reality

Let’s talk about wokeness. It’s not a dirty word; it’s about justice, fairness, and leveling the playing field.

But here’s the catch: justice isn’t about letting criminals roam free because of some misguided belief that society is to blame for every bad deed. There’s a time for mercy, and there’s a time for justice, as Ecclesiastes 3:8 says, “A time to love, and a time to hate; a time for war, and a time for peace.”

The woke movement needs to wake up to the reality that some battles require a firm hand, and that’s where the police come in. To reject the police outright is to abandon the very justice the woke movement claims to seek. It’s hypocrisy wrapped in good intentions.

Walking the Line: It’s Not for the Faint of Heart

Supporting the police doesn’t mean endorsing every action or ignoring the need for reform. Let’s be clear—there’s corruption, there’s brutality, and those issues need to be called out with the same fervor as any social injustice. But supporting the police means recognizing the brutal truth that some people can’t be reasoned with. Some require a firm hand to protect the rest of us.

This isn’t an easy line to walk, but who said ethics were supposed to be easy?

If you want to be truly woke, you have to accept that the world is messy, that sometimes justice looks like a cop walking a beat, and sometimes it looks like a protester demanding change.

True wokeness isn’t about picking sides; it’s about holding both realities in tension.

Burning Bridges or Building a Better World?

Let’s get one thing straight: if your version of wokeness involves demonizing every cop, you’re not woke—you’re blind. The police, for all their flaws, are the ones who run toward danger while the rest of us run away. That doesn’t make them perfect, but it sure as hell makes them worthy of our support.

True empathy—real, gritty, get-your-hands-dirty empathy—means supporting those who protect the vulnerable, even if that protection sometimes comes with a badge and a gun. It means standing up for justice, even when it’s uncomfortable, and calling out the wolves for what they are.

So, can you be woke and support the police?

Hell yes, you can. In fact, if you truly believe in justice, you must. Anything less is a cop-out.

Stay well. Swim strong!

Warmly,

David

P.S. If you're ready to supercharge your business with sustainable energy, now's the time to act. With Joe Biden's Build Back Better plan funneling unprecedented funds into green initiatives, the opportunities are massive. Just last month I helped a hospitality client secure $849,000 in federal grants—essentially free money for their solar system. Imagine what your business or hotel could do with a seven-figure boost in government benefits. Don’t wait—DM me today to see how we can make it happen and transform your business with the power of solar!

P.P.S. Do you know a business drowning in electricity costs? Refer them to me, and if we close the deal, you'll earn a royalty that's as big as a shark's bite. Let's make some waves together!

Yes agree there is an awful societal tendency towards binary views of everything. Much of life is a continuum, and we can find the appropriate middle ground.
