Due to a dispute with the airport, low-cost carrier Wizz Air has cancelled the majority of its flights at #Doncaster Sheffield Airport (DSA).
The cancellations, which will begin on June 10th, will affect 13 European destinations.
The #flight cancellations will take effect the following Friday.
According to #Wizz Air, "Unfortunately, Doncaster Sheffield Airport has indicated that it is unable to guarantee the conditions of its commercial agreement with Wizz Air, leading to this decision. Our top objective is to minimise overall interruption to our UK consumers while also protecting our crew's jobs. As a result, pilots and cabin crew at Doncaster Sheffield Airport have been notified of the news and have been offered the opportunity to fly out of another UK base."
The following locations are affected:
#Fuerteventura is a small island off the coast of Spain (winter schedule only)
#Palma de Mallorca is a city in the Balearic Islands
#Kosice is a city in Slovakia (winter schedule only)
Gran Canaria is a small island off the coast of Spain (winter schedule only)

Surprise at Doncaster Sheffield Airport
Doncaster Sheffield Airport issued a statement after Wizz Air announced the flight cancellations, stating it was fully uninformed of the decision until it was made public.
According to Doncaster Sheffield Airport,
"Unfortunately, Wizz Air appears to have decided to discontinue a considerable number of flights at Doncaster Sheffield Airport beginning June 10, 2022. Unfortunately, DSA was just made aware of the decision this afternoon through a media statement. We're trying to get more information from the airline about their choice and how it will affect travellers."
Although adjacent Leeds-Bradford Airport and Manchester Airport have not been so fortunate, DSA has managed to dodge the most of the travel disruption afflicting numerous UK airports.
The two main players at Doncaster Sheffield Airport are Wizz Air and TUI Airways.?
Wizz believes that by making this choice, it will be able to support its operations at other UK airports that are experiencing staffing shortages and delays.
The airline went on to say,
"Given the present difficult operational climate in the travel industry, particularly with staff shortages in air traffic control and at airports, our decision also stabilises our operations at other UK bases to help minimise disturbance and delay to the greatest extent feasible."
Passengers will receive full reimbursements.
Wizz Air will offer passengers on affected itineraries compensation packages that include a full refund, airline credit, or rebooking.
According to Wizz Air,
"Passengers with affected bookings will be informed by email today with information on all of their options, which include rebooking, a full refund, or airline credit worth 120 percent of the original ticket."
Wizz Air added seven new routes to its Doncaster Sheffield Airport operations in 2020, and the airline continues to expand across the UK. Wizz Air spoke with Simple Flying about its recruitment strategy and how it is responding to the surge in demand in the United Kingdom
