The Wizard of Cause...

Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain. That's what our CEO, Will Black, was for years as he gave away Million$ to worthwhile charities. The people that got stacks of cash knew him and our team. The businesses we saved tons and tons of money and helped them donate knew us... but that was it.

No ads. No national campaign. Just working behind the curtain.

Now, we get national interviews and have large campaigns. Will was in a group training online and opening up this system to charitable groups about large, ongoing, sustainable funding by redirecting a business fee to their charity. That's when it happened.

"You're the Wizard of Cause!" this one guy said (a little loudly).

All of a sudden, 12 different charity presidents and fundraisers started howling out in laughter. It was a great pun, and it was dang funny in the moment. Then he just went about his work.

However, he has told that story a few times as an anecdote, and he keeps getting positive feedback from it. Then he met with Travis Johnson of The Nonprofit Architect (If you have a charity, go to his site). He laughed at that hard, and asked, "Why is that not on every piece of marketing you have?"

Should we put it in marketing? Maybe we will, Travis. If the joke helps people remember us and either gets them more income as a charity, or gives better to charity as a business, then so be it.

At the end of the day, there is a road of golden bricks paved with credit and debit cards. It leads to an emerald city of charity that is flush with the cash of unrestricted donations. Businesses pave that road daily, but it normally goes back into the system. Send it to the Emerald City, instead. Send it to your favorite charity.
