Gamifying Learning Wiz using CTF

Wiz Capture the Flag (CTF) Training

?? Redefining Security Training with Wiz's Competitive Approach! ?????

The age-old debate: "PowerPoint presentations or hands-on experiences?" took an interesting turn last week. We collaborated with Wiz for a CTF (Capture The Flag) event, focusing on cloud issues. And let's just say, our preference has never been clearer.

Multiple missions and levels

We split into groups of 4-5 people across multiple teams and departments even non technical departments such as internal audits participated! ?? A good win indeed!

Kick off!

The level of difficulty in the CTF was meticulously calibrated – not so daunting that participants felt overwhelmed, but challenging enough to spur curiosity and deeper exploration. This balance provided unique opportunities for everyone to learn, regardless of their technical background. And herein lies the magic – it wasn’t just a game for our security team. Teams that typically might not delve into the nuances of security found themselves drawn into the challenge, fostering greater inter-departmental collaboration and knowledge-sharing.

The immersive game format offered a more tangible and captivating means to learn security concepts and explore Wiz's rich functionalities. Rather than passive slide-based sessions, we found ourselves actively racing against time, collaborating, strategizing, and, most importantly, learning.

Everyone got all the flags!

We ended up getting all the flags with every team racing to get them all first. The hands on experience made everyone even more aware of the challenges and opportunities we face in a the cloud.

Here's what some of our team members shared:

  • "This was a breath of fresh air from traditional trainings. Both engaging and packed with insights!" ??
  • "Being a newcomer to SecOps, this provided the perfect learning curve. Eager for the next round!" ??
  • "I've discovered so many layers to the Wiz portal today. What an educational challenge!" ??
  • "Keen to tackle more complex scenarios. This felt like just the beginning."
  • "Give me real-time tasks over slide decks any day. The competitive edge made it even better!"
  • "Just wanted to say thanks for getting me in at the last minute. It was truly beneficial, and my team was super supportive with Wiz."

CNAPP changes the security game in the cloud but learning it is difficult. Interactive experiences like these not only deepen understanding but also spark enthusiasm often missing from conventional training. The fun competition aspect made us think quicker, collaborate smarter, and internalize key security concepts in a memorable way.

A massive shoutout to Wiz for introducing such an inventive learning style, and a heartfelt thank you to every participant who made it a roaring success!

If you are interested in speaking to them please reach out to Dan Roostan ?? and tell him Kenichi brought them. ??
