Learning about the world, volcanoes and how we need to adapt daily.

Wives that work, teach, play, giggle, make up silly rhymes, draw and do junk modelling.

This is how our lives look now under the umbrella of covid-19.

We pivot, we roll, we metamorphose into people/parents our kids want to hang out with. So much so, they wont leave us alone! The therapist says we are doing a great job if this is the case! LOL.

So I was thinking about this a lot lately and thought we have spent the last 5 weeks under lockdown with 2 kids under 10 with high needs. We have now stumbled upon this happy medium. We have a plan for homework, we keep it to 1 hour with a Jo Wicks 5 minute finisher, we knock the stuffing out of creative play. My wife and I check our email and organise online deliveries whilst the kids utilise their ‘tablet time’ we have learnt to mould and shape ourselves into parents they need us to be. Its been a really enriching process as I can see what they really need and what we need to deliver.

Transferring this knowledge to a work environment I can see that we are all going to have to pivot. Find a new way to reach our customers, be more relaxed about communicating our needs and less apologies for the washing on the maiden in the background or the cat jumping up into your Zoom lens! This has got to make us better humans. We are slap bang in industry 4.0 and we can take this opportunity to bend and shake our tree. Re write the rules, lets keep talking about our mental health, let us continue to say I think going for a walk will improve my mood and left my spirits. Let that be an ok message to just hang out there.

Let’s keep that imagination alive, that curiosity, that generosity of spirit. The Thursday clap for carers, lets keep saying thank you to everyone that keeps us going. Let’s keep utilising this wonderful technology we are so fortunate to have access to. I have woken up everyday grateful to be fit and well and that all my family and friends are staying safe and well too. Gratitude for having an outside space and neighbours that don’t mind our rowdy kids or throwing the balls and shuttlecocks back over the fence, that go over every day. We as a family are so lucky we have all our needs met and we get to spend this time, as a family. So from our family and our Eden Smith family to you and your families, stay well and safe and the lights that are still shining, let’s keep remembering the people and service providers that keep making our lives possible. THANK YOU XXX

If you are getting an hour of homework done a day and the kids still want to talk you're definitely winning! Mine spent all day den building so that I could get a few hours work done. The pay off? 3 days of tidying sheets! ??

Thanks for sharing Lucy ?? Big respect to all the parents doing an almighty job right now! I agree there's lots of good to come out of this. Some of the core skills that we know industry 4.0 drives are really being showcased across the world right now. #creativity #emotionalintelligence #problemsolving
