Without standards, everything is fine

Happiness is a function of reality minus expectations. The lower your expectations are, the higher the outcome is. However, does it mean that a life without expectations means everything is fine?

When you don’t know what you believe, everything becomes an argument. Everything is debatable. But when you stand for something, decisions are obvious. - Jason Fried

You need to believe in something to get somewhere. Without beliefs and standards, you might lead an unburdened life since everything is fine. However, it also means that everything can be better and worse. You need a standard you hold to escape the ambiguity of ‘fine’.

Take action

Action may not always bring happiness, but there is no happiness without action. - Benjamin Disraeli

You will only be happy if you do something. Even if you do not get the desired results, at least you have tried. When you do not take action, you become a passive spectator of your own life, and happiness will elude you. Everything will be just fine, and nothing more than that.

Therefore start working on your actions while you set your standards and expectations relatively low. When you complete your actions, use the momentum of your work to increase your standards. This way, you increase your impact, manage your expectations and be happy with your efforts.
