Without an effective mission statement, you may get to the top of the ladder and then realize it was leaning against the wrong building

Many corporate mission statements are unfortunately "worthless". They consist largely of pious platitudes such as: "We will hold ourselves to the highest standards of professionalism and ethical behavior." They often formulate necessities as objectives; for example, "to achieve sufficient profit." This is like a person saying his mission is to breathe sufficiently.
A mission statement is not something you write overnight... But fundamentally, your mission statement becomes your constitution, the solid expression of your vision and values.
An empowering mission statement has to become a living document, part of our very nature, so that the criteria we've put into it are also in us, in the way we live our lives day by day. You basically get what you reward. If you want to achieve the goals and reflect the values in your mission statement, then you need to align the reward system with these goals and values.
A mission statement should be defined as an action-based statement that declares the purpose of an organization and how they serve their customers.?The best mission statements also leave a lasting impression of your brand in the minds of your consumers, encouraging them to choose you over another company. A quality mission statement incorporates your company core values and reflects your organization’s personality.
Without an effective mission statement, you may get to the top of the ladder and then realize it was leaning against the wrong building!

8 个月Coincidentally, Im a part of 4 nos. of organisation which was 30+ yrs old...I found out some same patterns in all of the organization......Struggling in the transition phase of digital age even though identified as a brand in their respective products....Over the period of experience, organisation have unconscious competence but modernization in this digital age requires conscious competence...... I thought about an idea about 'updation of organisation mission statement and replaying it as a recorded voice in hourly clock reminder as a constant reminder...... Voice of stakeholders Dept heads Employees And so...... Which may push for the deliberate practice with conscious remembering of vision/mission statement...
