The Witcher 1 | music remake
When CDPR announced a remake of the first part of The Witcher, I had a bold idea: why not remake the music now?! This thought so captivated me that I decided to act! But I understood that I could not manage such a large-scale project alone, so I suggested joining forces with my colleague, Kate Yantser, a wonderful person and a talented composer.
It was an offer you couldn't refuse, so we agreed quickly!
First of all, we took as a basis the original theme - the vocal motive ("Dusk of a Northern Kingdom"), which is the most recognizable from the whole series of games. By the way, my collegue Kate Yantser recorded the vocals at home, later we mixed it with library sound.
The second point that I consider important is the use of traditional instruments in combination with a symphony orchestra. As a composer, I find this musical fusion incredibly inspiring and natural to the world of The Witcher. To emphasize the folk direction of the game, we used such instruments as a hurdy-gurdy, kaval, lute, kemane and many others.
The most difficult part of this work was to keep the spirit of the original game, but at the same time update the sound and show our vision of the music.
With our work, we pay tribute to one of the most exciting gaming soundtracks. I hope we were able to share our love for this incredible music and contribute to the continuing legacy of The Witcher franchise.
