In 2024, Europe witnessed significant developments in regulations aimed at enhancing traceability and sustainability across various industries, notably textiles and electronics.?

At PSQR, we have been working on extending our traceability solution with our partners, customers and supporters to assist businesses with compliance and innovation in their operations.

2024 has been a year of growth and learning, and we are grateful to have shared this journey with you. Together, we’ve tackled complex challenges and taken meaningful steps toward building more transparent, resilient, and compliant supply chains.

We’ve gathered some key moments from 2024 that marked the changes in the regulations and within the industries. These include:

1. Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation (ESPR): On July 18, 2024, the European Union's ESPR came into force, introducing measures to improve product sustainability and circular economy. A central feature is the implementation of Digital Product Passports (DPPs), designed to provide detailed information about a product's lifecycle, promoting transparency and circularity.
2. Digital Product Passports in the Textile Industry: The ESPR mandates DPPs for textiles, requiring businesses to digitize product information, including materials, production methods, and environmental impact. The detailed requirements are expected to be finalized by the end of 2025, with enforcement starting in 2027.
3. Industry Pilots and Collaborations: Several fashion brands initiated DPP pilot projects to align with upcoming regulations. They participated in trials to test DPP implementation, focusing on supply chain traceability and data sharing.
4. Increased Focus and Need for Traceability: 2024 saw a heightened emphasis on traceability as a core pillar of sustainable supply chains. Regulatory frameworks like the ESPR and corporate initiatives spotlighted the importance of tracking materials and processes across industries. The electronics and textiles sectors, in particular, faced growing demands for detailed reporting on sourcing and environmental impact, driven by consumer expectations and legal requirements. This shift underscored the necessity for digital tools to map supply chains and ensure compliance.

PSQR & Digital Product Passport

In 2024, PSQR has worked with partners, customers and suppliers to create a solution that will assist companies affected by the Digital Product Passport regulation in preparing for the upcoming regulation.

Furthermore, we became a member of the CIRPASS-2 Expert Working Group 3 - the Textile Stakeholders Group, where as members of the group, we hope to contribute to shaping the future of traceability and compliance within the textile sector.?

We are dedicated to using industry insights to address the challenges and unlock the benefits of implementing Digital Product Passports, and helping textile businesses (and businesses from other affected industries) navigate evolving regulations and maintain a competitive edge.?
