Wishing you a Happy HR Day -2021

Hello LinkedIn family,

I read a poem (I guess 4 years ago) by Wensdae Lucas MCIPD, here in this platform. This morning it reminded me about the International HR Day and I took a chance to re-write that poem in my words.

Given the last 24 months was at par difficult to every sector and to every portfolio, I guess HR had taken the front blow but standing strong in leading each of their company / organization in this turbulent times (physically and virtually).

This re-written poem goes to each one of YOU, my fellow HR mates. It’s not literature at its finest (“it depends” lol) , just a little fun which I enjoyed (while I wrote), I hope you do too.

 Here we go… 

Hand-made Human Resources

A blue and green ball revolving in an open space, where one species called Homo Sapiens lives and tries to scale,

Here comes the Human resources, what an odd idea, a group of people to lend their ears, heart and mind.

To train and develop you with passion and pride, and reward you for successes you don’t want to hide.

To recruit you and boot you and pay your wage, and provide you activities no matter your age,

We help the people-function in the laid out Ts & Cs’-junction, we go beyond (for you) even when you are not around,

As we are focused on our mandate to support a healthy, productive and engaged workforce .

Some say HR is like a mother and some say don’t even bother,

Some say HR is a spending team and same say it’s a good RoI team,

Some say HR is a whining team and some say they are the winning team, 

Some say HR leads from the front but always behind the scenes,

Some say HR is just a sandwich which is pressed by folks up and down.

 Focused on people as our primary resource, we may come across pushy, but never use brute force.

We have aims and objectives, too many to count, the requests we receive, we work hard not to mount.

We work round the clock, sometimes we work after the clock, Our minds never sleep, our hearts never refuse, we stretch our self to its last.

We say "It depends" and we say "Will get back to you" but we never say "Never".

Questions upon questions and MS-Teams/ZOOM requests too, Reports, Policies and unending cues to all who we support.

The list is endless and often OUR jobs are thankless, but on a positive note we aren’t working (in finance or) elsewhere!

To conclude, let me say we have a hard task to bear, Often perceived as rude, organized and not always fair .

We must work as a team, And coordinate right, Provide sympathy and empathy, And continue to fight!

Are policies, procedures and processes too, All have a purpose – they are here to help you !

Though no one is around to Pat our back, Here we are standing strong to make our work -world a better place than yesterday,

As I wish (each one of) YOU a Happy HR Day, Let’s remember we always Light a candle, than to curse the darkness. Yes, we are here to make a difference.

I once again take this opportunity to wish you a “Happy and Thoughtful HR Day”, your ‘Mental Health’ matters too.
