Wish you loads of 'unlearning' ....
... as the calendar turns. A 'milestone', such as a 'new year', is a reminder to pause, reflect and then look forward.
I know most of you may be thinking, "why create more terms? Jargons such as 'unlearn'? Why cannot we just say, 'Wish you wonderful new learnings?"
'What really is the difference between 'Learning new ways' vs. 'Unlearning'?
A small self-assessment will help you understand the difference. Try remembering the accurate translation of "Kindly wait. The chairperson is busy now, but he is expected in about 15 mins" in a foreign language that you do not know (e.g. Korean, or German).
After you see the google translate, see how long it takes you to remember and speak it out correctly.
Once that is behind you, try forgetting your own "Name". Try hard to just get it out of your mind. It's one thing you have learned from day one of your life as people called you by your name.
This exercise brings an instant realization that learning a new thing may be hard, but forgetting what you have learned over many years is far too difficult.
As we grow old, we learn more stuff. To grow wiser, we need to unlearn equally well. An open mind is open in both directions. Full-duplex :)
Happy New Year friends !!

3 年Agreeing with your well written article Bibhuti Sir. As we know, while learning anything or practicing any action over & over again creates neural pathways in our brain, which cements it's place stronger over a period of time. Now as you've described very well that WHY it's important to ''Unlearn', my curious mind wants to know 'HOW'? What should we do to dump all those trash piled up in our brain over years. Thanks in advance!
