Wise Words

A friend of mine excitedly shared her new business idea with me. Her enthusiasm was contagious, and I couldn't help but share in her excitement about the potential it held.

However, as weeks passed and I checked in on her progress, I noticed a subtle shift in her attitude. When asked how things were going, her response became more hesitant: ‘I'll try to find time to work on it.’

With each subsequent conversation, the phrase ‘I'll try’ seemed to hang in the air, accompanied by a noticeable decline in her initial enthusiasm.?It became evident that her once-promising idea had been pushed to the bottom of her ever-growing to-do list.

This experience reminded me of the significant impact our choice of words can have on our actions and mindset.

Phrases like ‘I can't’ imply limitations and hinder our willingness to take risks, while 'I should' carries the weight of obligations and societal pressures. Even seemingly harmless expressions like ‘I'll try’ leave room for doubt and procrastination, making it harder to achieve our goals.

Our words shape our reality and influence our behavior. Yet, we often use them casually, overlooking their power.

When we say 'I'll try', we are already giving ourselves a way out.

But with mindful language use, we can set ourselves up for success.

Instead of ‘I'll try’, we can say ‘I am choosing to’ or ‘I am committed to’, affirming our dedication and determination. Rather than ‘I can't’, we can say ‘I will explore alternatives’ or ‘I will find a solution’, opening up possibilities and fostering a growth mindset.

There is so?much power?in our words - so choose them wisely.
