A Wise old Owl

A Wise old Owl

The act of listening - and our own listening skills - can have a lasting impact on everything from personal relationships, to professional meetings, to how our day at the office or at home or school will turn out. I’m reminded of a poem that I love sharing with my two sons about a very wise old owl:

A wise old owl lived in an oak

The more he saw the less he spoke

The less he spoke the more he heard.

Why can't we all be like that wise old bird?

Having a great conversation isn’t just about saying the right words or catch-phrases; it’s sometimes about sitting still, deciding to be quiet, and simply listening. It aligns with another old adage about how we are given two ears, but only one mouth, in order to listen twice as much, encourage others to share their thoughts, and then better understand - and better react.

It’s amazing how this old English poem written in 1875 can be applied to what we do here at Cogito today in 2018; helping people have better conversations and improving how they listen, hear, and ultimately help those with whom they come in to contact.
