America's Cyberist Helping Financial & Professional Services Avoid Loss, Improve Business, and Eliminate Doubt
T - Minus 216 Days
180th Special Edition.
It's the monsoon season, coming down hard for another 3 or 4 inches of rain in a couple of hours in the darkness.
Spike and I will walk this afternoon. He doesn't like to get wet and you shouldn't take a 100 year old out in the rain.
The thing that never changes is people needing help with cybersecurity.
The server is under some cabinets next to the backdoor with a jumbled mess of cabling for switches and firewall mounted sideways on the wall above. Anyone could walk by on the way to the break area and smack or unplug or pour water on the stuff in seconds to put the whole firm out of business.
The server has networking misconfigured slowing everything down with a recurring disk warning for the last 3 years. It's also under powered and out of warranty with a ten year old operating system. Updates are 6 months behind and anti-virus is just a few weeks out of date.
The biggest problem is numerous active accounts of old employees and 4 different flavors of remote support spyware for access to any device or data on the entire network.

Most of the industry would excitedly run a free network assessment showing everything is broken and needing to be upgraded. They aren't wrong, but it gives very little value for the client just to repeat the same mistakes over and over.
Instead we'll arm them with a System Plan that they can use for management or disaster recovery and even cyber insurance, independent of any IT Support. It's time to get out of the server business and move critical data to the cloud for encrypted and audited access.
No a monthly support contact doesn't make sense in this scenario.
Daily mission:?Take 5 minutes and review your System Plan. If you don't have one, read the Revealing Service Provider Advisory.
