  • Are there more??

  1. "Set Boundaries, Find Peace" by Nedra Glover Tawwab

"Set Boundaries, Find Peace" by Nedra Glover Tawwab
"Set Boundaries, Find Peace" by Nedra Glover Tawwab

A guide to establishing healthy boundaries for lasting personal tranquillity.

  • The process of setting boundaries can be challenging and ugly.
  • Boundaries are mutual expectations that help you maintain mental and emotional well-being in your relationships.
  • Healthy boundaries means feeling safe and comfortable saying no, accepting it from others, and saying yes.
  • Fear of rejection is a reason why boundary violations are tolerated.
  • Boundaries need to be clarified right away in new relationships.
  • When you start setting boundaries with others, their responses can be disappointing. These include pushback, testing your limits, ignorance, defensiveness, ghosting, and passive-aggressive silent treatment.

  1. "Tao Te Ching" by Lao-Tzu

"Tao Te Ching" by Lao-Tzu
"Tao Te Ching" by Lao-Tzu

The profound ancient wisdom of Taoism offers guidance for peace and simplicity.

  • Confucianism emphasises order, traditions, duty, and definite hierarchy. Taoism focuses on complete opposites: inner freedom, constant self-cultivation, meditation, and staying in touch with the world's harmonies.
  • Tao is fundamental art, the order of nature, and the essence of every living thing in the universe, the soul of the universe.
  • The leading idea is the belief that there’s a simpler way of attaining a healthier, better, gentler, kinder, and more harmonious life.
  • Knowing when to let things go is an art. Taoism means releasing worries, stress, and constant anxious thoughts.
  • Lao-Tzu offers Taoists three treasures:? compassion, frugality and self-effacement.

  1. "A Thousand Brains" by Jeff Hawkins

"A Thousand Brains" by Jeff Hawkins
"A Thousand Brains" by Jeff Hawkins

A new theory of intelligence that will transform our understanding of the brain.

  • ?Hawkins makes the case for why current AI understandings are misguided
  • Neuroscientists have agreed that we can’t fully replicate the brain even after studying it extensively for decades
  • Neurological science cannot fully explain how the brain exhibits high-level intelligence.
  • AI is still no match for the human brain. Humans still have not worked out how the brain works, so how can we build a machine that does? Or is that human ego saying that?
  • The neocortex is the seat of intelligence in the brain. However, we’re born with an empty one that knows absolutely nothing.
  • The brain’s learning structure is available at birth. Actual knowledge takes place as we grow and interact with the world.
  • The neocortex evolved from the old ‘schooled by natural selection’ brain. The old brain and neocortex are in constant conflict. Sugar is one example of such conflict.
  • You don’t always use information that enters your brain immediately; most is stored for future reference.

A day of fallen night” by Samantha Shannon

800+ pages of Dragons! Enough said. I'm reading book 2 of the saga before book 1 as I have book 2 in print, and this is not something I’d read as an eBook.

  • ?I like the combination of dragons and humans.
  • I'm not so happy that some people don’t like dragons and want to slay them.

?? Goodreads Reading Challenge 2024?

Progress update: 52/52?

?? Try This:?

  1. From "Set Boundaries, Find Peace":

Reflect on your week. Identify a recurring situation where you feel overextended or uncomfortable. Write down one boundary you could set that might alleviate that stress.

  1. From "Tao Te Ching":

Choose one task or activity and approach it with a focus on simplicity and ease, reflecting on the Taoist principle of 'effortless action' (Wu Wei).

  1. From "A Thousand Brains":

Do a 'brain workout.' Engage in a new activity, like a puzzle or learning a few words in a new language, to stimulate neural plasticity.

  1. From "A Day of Fallen Night":

If you're a fantasy fan, take a moment to envision your fantasy world or creature. If you're a writer or artist, sketch or jot down some ideas.
