?? Wisdom Wednesdays 7: Pages from My Bookshelf

Welcome back to our weekly rendezvous with the written word. Let’s dive into the insights and adventures from this week’s literary companions.

I’m giving my insights and takeaways.

  • Are there more?
  • Yes, there likely are, and if you have read the book, please share!

? I Recently Savoured

1.???? “The Latte Factor: Why You Don’t Have to Be Rich to Live Rich?” by David Bach and John David Mann

Unveiling the secret to living your richest life by making mindful financial choices daily.

  • Find the course you wish your life to take
  • Be mindful of where your life is always going. It should lead to your primary purpose and goal.
  • If you look from the proper perspective, you will realise that you are richer than you think.
  • This book resonates strongly with my #BAUU book as it highlights alignment – is that why I like it?

2.???? “You, Happier: The 7 Neuroscience Secrets of Feeling Good Based on Your Brain Type” by Daniel G. Amen

Uncover tailored pathways to joy through the lens of neuroscience and brain type specificity.

  • Happiness is also determined by how much we appreciate what we already have
  • Tailor happiness tactics to your brain type (there are 5 of them)
  • One falsehood stems from the lyric, “Don’t worry, be happy.”
  • The Standard American Diet (the SAD diet) contains toxic elements and artificial chemicals that harm mental, emotional and physical health
  • Sustained happiness is mostly about making the correct choices over time, strengthening the brain connections of contentment
  • Point out up to 10 people you can call “My Hero.”

3.???? “Start with NO. The Negotiating Tools that the Pros Don’t Want You to Know” by Jim Camp

Flipping the script on traditional negotiation tactics to gain the upper hand by embracing the power of ‘no’.

  • Neediness in negotiation will make you lose control and make bad decisions.
  • Inject a little humanity, vulnerability and un-okay-ness into the negotiation
  • “Maybe” is a frustrating waste of time; it’s the kiss of death for negotiation success
  • Focus on your behaviour and actions, not trying to control the outcome
  • The most essential behavioural goal and habit is to develop is to ask questions, curious questions
  • Ask, “What would you like me to do?”
  • Who controls a conversation, the person speaking or the person listening?
  • Your business is never apparent; that’s a poor assumption if you think it’s obvious and you’ve explained it.

?? Cherished Revisits

1.???? “Purple Cow: Transform Your Business by Being Remarkable” by Seth Godin

A transformative guide to making your business stand out in a market full of brown cows.

  • First published in 2003 and expanded in 2009, I purchased this in 2011, and this is maybe the third or fourth read.
  • For your product to succeed, it must be genuinely remarkable.
  • Many companies fear the criticism and change that come with being remarkable.
  • Advertising is becoming less effective; we need to adapt and change
  • Be a purple cow and stand out.?

?? Try This:

1.???? Review your daily expenses and identify one “Latte Factor” you can eliminate or reduce this week, inspired by the insights from “The Latte Factor.”

2.???? Choose one of the brain types mentioned in “You, Happier,” identify which one relates to you, and try a suggested happiness strategy tailored to that type.

3.???? The next time you find yourself in a negotiation, consciously decide not to rush to fill silences with concessions; instead, ask a question that could give you more insight, as recommended in “Start with NO.”

4.???? Consider what “being remarkable” means in your personal or professional life and make one small change to move towards that, drawing inspiration from “Purple Cow.”
