?? Wisdom Wednesdays #3: Pages from My Bookshelf ??

Welcome back to our weekly rendezvous with the written word. Let's dive into the insights and adventures from this week's literary companions.

As many of you asked, I listened! and notice that I’m giving my insights and takeaways. Are there more? Yes, there likely are, and if you have read the book, please share!?

? Recently Savoured

Books I've recently read ...

1 - How to Find Fulfilling Work by Roman Krznaric: Embarking on a quest for new paths to meaningful work.

  • Your career determines your happiness.
  • You need a purpose to be fulfilled.
  • Matching your job to your purpose is the intent
  • Many people won’t leave a dissatisfying job, or given the Great [insert what word you want] maybe they are starting to
  • Meaning, flow, and freedom are the three essential ingredients of a fulfilling career
  • As I thought … you need a Life Purpose!

2 - The Circadian Code by Satchin Panda: Lose weight, supercharge your energy, and transform your health from morning to midnight.

  • A solid circadian rhythm helps prevent a long list of health issues.
  • If your daily routines are aligned with your circadian rhythm, like an orchestra, it makes sweet music; conversely, it’s a cacophony – timing is everything.
  • There is a right time to do literally everything

3 - Stillness Is the Key by Ryan Holiday: Discovering tranquillity in a non-stop world.

  • To be present, you first need to be still.
  • Be in the present to be more focused.
  • Being still is hard work.
  • Being still is intentional.
  • I see this same same but different as Mindfulness

4 - NYPD Red 3 by James Patterson: The thrilling continuation of the elite task force series, where the stakes in New York City are higher than ever. It's a simple relaxing read as reading Fiction is good for you, and it’s a break from reading self-help and business books

?? Cherished Revisits

I've just read it again ...

1 - The Sleep Solution by W. Chris Winter: My continuing quest to solve the mysteries of the lack of deep sleep because of Long COVID. Will this book give me the answers I seek?

  • I first read this 6 months ago and wanted a reread as I’m still struggling to get enough Deep Sleep
  • Fatigue and feeling sleepy are very different.
  • They're 3 stages of sleep cycle: i) N1 = Light sleepii) N2 = Deep sleep or non-REM sleepiii) N3 = Dream sleep or REM sleep
  • Circadian rhythm impacts sleep-wake patterns
  • Healthy sleep hygiene is critical
  • Create a sleep schedule and routine

2 - The Quiet War by Paul McAuley: Navigating the silent battles of interstellar intrigue. A fascinating rediscovery of a book I read 7-10 years ago, which now seems completely new to me, possibly a side effect of Long COVID affecting memory. This means I need to revisit more books?

?? Between the Covers

I'm still reading it, so too early to share the takeaways

1 - The Earned Life by Marshall Goldsmith: Aligning every action with our deepest values.

2 - Course Creation Simplified by Jimmy Naraine: Unraveling the art of impactful teaching.

3 - Unstoppable You by Liene Uresina Public speaker, Bestselling author : The relentless pursuit of self-improvement.

4 - 10 Things They Don't Teach You in Engineering School by Kian Leong Phang : Unveiling the unwritten lessons of the engineering world.

5 - Conversation Starters That Will Get You (and Others) Talking by Diane Weston: I’m re-engaging with the ‘revised’ edition to explore the depths of dialogue. Why? as the author asked me nicely ??

?? Freshly Planted

Added to my To Read mountain of books.

1 - Letters from a Stoic by Seneca: Sifting through the wisdom of antiquity for lessons on virtue, happiness, and the art of living.

2 - The Last Law of Attraction Book You'll Ever Need To Read by Andrew Kap: Delving into the universal keys to manifesting personal desires and the life you want to lead.

3 - NYPD Red 4 by James Patterson: Diving into the latest high-octane instalment of the fast-paced series set in the heart of New York City. I liked Red 3 so why not read Red 4.

???? Engage & Gauge

I value your insights on reading habits. Join the conversation in two ways:

  1. Our LinkedIn poll finished on February 27th, we’ll announce the results in our Engage and Gauge post at 10:00 AM on Tuesday 5 March. Look for #EngageAndGauge
  2. Dive deeper and provide more nuanced feedback through our comprehensive survey. Your responses are greatly appreciated and will help shape our bookish community. Take the survey here https://trginternational.typeform.com/Books1 ?

?? Reflect and discuss

1.???? Have you experienced rediscovering a book as if it were the first time? How did it change your perception?

2.???? What strategies do you employ to retain and recall what you read, especially when facing challenges like Long COVID?

3.???? Set up and follow a sleep schedule for a few weeks and see how it impacts your productivity.

4.???? Monitor when you feel bursts of energy or tiredness. Tweak your schedule to realign with your circadian rhythm.

5.???? Stay still and be fully aware of your environment for a few minutes. How hard was that?

That's a wrap

That's it for this week. Check in next week for another week's worth of reads and insights.

Happy reading

/Rick
