Wisdom for Today
Did you know that God gives wisdom and He will gladly give you all the wisdom you need under one condition? What is that one condition? You must ask for it. It is that simple. In James chapter one, Christians were experiencing all kinds of trials, but those trials were producing the benefit of patience and maturity. If you are going through tough times right now, chances are, you are very confused at times. In your confusion, you need wisdom and clarity. God promises that if you ask Him for wisdom, He will give it to you liberally. You just need to ask for it, and it really is that simple. It’s a promise from God with no strings attached. If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him. – James 1:5
The Greek philosopher Socrates once observed, “The only true wisdom is in knowing you know nothing.” Aristotle is quoted as saying, “Knowing yourself is the beginning of all wisdom.” However, better advice came from King Solomon, who wrote centuries earlier: “The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom” (Prov.9:10). Solomon was king of Israel, the Lord God came to Solomon in a dream, saying, “Ask for whatever you want me to give you” (1King 3: 5). Can you imagine what your reaction would be if God asked you that question? What would you ask for? Wealth? Power, Position? Longevity?
Solomon began his response by praising God: “You have shown great kindness to your servant, my father David.” Then he acknowledged the continued kindness God had shown to him (1King 3:?6). Solomon recognized his inadequacy, youthfulness, and inexperience (1King 3:?7). He was barely out of his teens when he took the throne so it is no surprise that he felt overwhelmed with the responsibilities of governing the nation. Solomon continued and did not ask for wealth or a more power or joyful life but rather he gave a wise request, “Give your servant a discerning heart” (1King 3:?9). The word discerning can also be translated “hearing” or “obedient.” Solomon was asking for the capacity to obey God’s law and distinguish between right and wrong (1King 3: 9). He recognized that the best thing for him to do was to stay in step with the law of God.
?In return, God richly blessed him for humbling himself and seeking wisdom. God gave Solomon wisdom, enabling him to see through lies and deception. The Bible is rich with God's wisdom, especially in Psalms, Proverbs and Ecclesiastes. The dictionary defines?wisdom?as “the ability to discern or judge what is true, right, or lasting.”?The biblical concept of wisdom is a practical, moral, and spiritual insight given by God. (1 Kings 3:7-9, Pro.2:3-6, 10-19, 9:1-6). It is the ability to discern right from wrong and good from evil. It is the power that enables a person to do and say the right thing at the right time.
We will not find wisdom in spiritual gurus' teaching, books, internet, we will not find leaders of the world or our favourite talk show hosts. There is only one source of wisdom. Wisdom is from God alone. “Wisdom belongs to God.” Job 12:13.
The?purpose of wisdom?is to give insight into our living, so that our days may not be wasted and lived fully for an eternal?purpose; avoiding regret and living without guilt from choices bathed in?wisdom.?
Wisdom?guides how we live and grants joy to those who live by it.
God’s wisdom will help you to make good and right choices in life. Proverb 3:21- 23.
God’s wisdom will give you favour before God and man. Pro.3:4 we read that.”?So, you will find favour and good success in the sight of God and man.” Pro. 8:35 says “For those who find me (wisdom)?find life and receive favour from the?Lord.” If God favour is in your life, in your job, in your married life, in your business, and in your family, you will live a successful, peaceful, and victorious life.
God’s wisdom will give you long days and years and peaceful life. Proverb.3:2 says “For the length of days and years of life and peace, they will add to you.” When God’s wisdom leads you, you will live a long and peaceful life.
God’s wisdom brings abundant blessings into our life. Proverb 8:18-21. Speaks. “With me are riches and honour,?enduring wealth, and prosperity. My fruit is better than fine gold;?what I yield surpasses choice silver, I walk in the way of righteousness,?along the paths of justice, bestowing a rich inheritance on those who love me?and making their treasuries full.
God’s wisdom from above is perfect. (James 3:17 says “But the wisdom from above is first of all pure. It is also peace loving, gentle at all times, and willing to yield to others. It is full of mercy and the fruit of good deeds. It shows no favouritism and is always sincere.”
