THE WISDOM OF GOD (4)

THE WISDOM OF GOD (4)

James 3:17 (NASB)

17 “But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, reasonable, full of mercy and good fruits, unwavering, without hypocrisy.”

?Continuation:

G. Godly wisdom is Practical—3:17f

James 3:17f (NASB)

17 “But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, reasonable, full of mercy and good fruits, unwavering, without hypocrisy.”

????God’s wisdom is practical. It is full of “good fruits.” God’s wisdom does not make a life empty, but full. Faithful people are fruitful for the Lord.

H. Godly wisdom is Persistent—3:17g

James 3:17g (NASB)

17 “But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, reasonable, full of mercy and good fruits, unwavering, without hypocrisy.”

????Godly wisdom is “unwavering or without partiality.” This phrase comes from the Greek word adiakritos {ad-ee-ak'-ree-tos} which is used only here in the New Testament. This word means “unwavering, unshakable, singleness of mind, not being judgmental or divisive, impartial, without vacillation or doubtfulness.” Being without partiality is the opposite of wavering and instability.

God’s wisdom helps you to be decisive, especially when it comes to doing what is right and living for Christ. God wants us to make up our mind to serve Him and we can do this without hesitation or fear. Make up your mind to serve God with your life! Don't waste it or throw it away on sinful, selfish living. Daniel made up his mind to do what was right and God blessed and used him.

Daniel 1:8 (NASB)

8 “But Daniel made up his mind that he would not defile himself with the king's choice food or with the wine which he drank; so, he sought permission from the commander of the officials that he might not defile himself.”

J. Godly wisdom is Plain—3:17h

James 3:17h (NASB)

17 “But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, reasonable, full of mercy and good fruits, unwavering, without hypocrisy.”

????Godly wisdom is “without hypocrisy.” This phrase comes from the Greek word anupokritos {an-oo-pok'-ree-tos} which means “undisguised, sincere, without play-acting, genuine.” A hypocrite in ancient Greece was a person who played the part of an “actor.” This word refers to a person who acts differently than what he really is. Worldly wisdom is insincere many times, but God’s wisdom is characterized by openness, plainness, and honesty. What we ARE is important to the Lord. The wisdom from above causes us to be genuine and the wisdom of this world is hypocritical. To be a Christian, and not live the Christian life, is to be a failure and hypocritical.

Ephesians 4:15 (NASB)

15 “But speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in all aspects into Him who is the head, even Christ.”

James closes out the chapter telling us that sowing peace yields a harvest of righteousness.

James 3:18 (NASB)

18 “And the seed whose fruit is righteousness is sown in peace by those who make peace.”

The world today neither has peace or righteousness. French philosopher, Albert Camus, stated, “Every century has been characterized by one key emphasis.

  • The 17th century emphasized mathematics.
  • The 18th century emphasized physical science.
  • The 19th century emphasized biology.
  • The 20th century emphasized fear with two world wars and many other wars."
  • The 21st century continues to emphasize fear, wars, extreme selfishness, materialism, and corruption.”

?Camus then asked, “Is this progress?” The wisdom of this world is withering. If you live your life by it, you will suffer the consequences of terrible decisions that will have tragic consequences.?
