Wisdom Comes with Age

Wisdom Comes with Age

Knowledge is a wonderful thing, but I think I'd rather have wisdom. With knowledge you obviously know a lot, but with wisdom comes the ability to put that knowledge to work. Sadly, for many of us we don't gain that wisdom until we've gone through something.

For myself I feel like I've gained some wisdom over the last few years. Things you think that you have thought through with every angle, every perspective, and every way seem to be able to throw you a curve ball or allow you to learn a little wisdom.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that it is good to gain a little wisdom through life experience or age. That way, when you face a situation that is similar, you can lean on those life lessons. The way to gain wisdom, that many including myself don't take near enough advantage of, is the wisdom of those that have been there and done that. Sometimes you don't realize how much you want that additional wisdom until the person is not there to give it anymore.

So the next time your grandpa, grandma, mentor, or some other person that has plenty of wisdom tells you that same story again, just sit there and listen and maybe, just maybe, some of that wisdom that comes with age might just rub off on you. Or even better yet ask them for some of that wisdom.

There are no limitations of race, relation, economics or creed: accessing the wisdom of our elders is as close as our local senior centers or other gathering places. Regardless of our age, we can start today to help build the best possible future of aging in our communities.

Great post Keith and so true. But now I'm offended. Is this why you ask me for advice all the time? ?? Kidding of course, you know you're my oracle of wisdom!

So true. Well stated.
