Wireless Planning and Coordination wing(WPC)

Created in 1952,WPC is an organisation with the Department of telecommunication, Ministry of communication and Information Technology, Government of India. It not only promote the adjectives of International Telecommunication Union (ITU) in India, WPC is the National Radio Regulatory Authority for frequency spectrum management. It caters to the needs of all government and private wireless users. It maintains the record of radio frequency allocations to various agencies which include the commercial mobile communication, aeromobile service, commercial and state broadcasting , amateur radio user etc.

The WPC conducts the examination for the award of RTR, Global Marine Distress and safety Service (GMDSS) and Amateur Radio COP and licenses. Also, it issues licenses to establish, maintain and operate wireless stations. WPC is divided into the following major sections:

(a) Licensing and Regulation (LR)

(b) New Technology Group (NTG)

(c) Standing Advisory Committee on Radio Frequency Allocation ( SACFA)

The WPC has head quarters in New Delhi and regional offices in Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata and Mumbai.
