A Winter's Tale: Moody, Dramatic Moments in Food Photography

Winter has arrived, bringing an invitation to savour the cosy, the moody, and the delicious through a series of photographic highlights from recent projects. This year, I’ve had the pleasure of working with inspiring clients and experimenting with some playful, dynamic shots of my own. From soft lighting to the swirl of liquid, and even a touch of levitation, this winter brings out the drama in food and drink.

Capturing Moments of Light and Flavour: Recent Highlights

Pink Lady Food Photographer of the Year – Shortlisted

A photo of three quinces earned a prestigious shortlist spot in this year’s Pink Lady Food Photographer of the Year competition. The image brings a still-life elegance, where simplicity meets rich, dramatic lighting – setting a mood that’s all about seasonal warmth.

Colonel Saab, London – A Cocktail with Character

As part of a full food and cocktail shoot for the iconic Colonel Saab restaurants in central London, this yellow cocktail shot with a lamp brought together rich tones and creative lighting to capture a sophisticated, inviting vibe.

Qopper Stories – Showcasing Copper Elegance

Working with Qopper Stories to highlight their exquisite copper kitchenware, I captured a moody, elegant shot of mussels in their stunning cookware. Special thanks to Ozge at Qopper Stories for the opportunity and the lovely feedback: "Thank you so much! They look soo amazing... it was lovely to work with you."

Levitation Series – Macarons and Mulled Wine

Inspired by winter senses, I experimented with levitating macarons and mulled wine, introducing an otherworldly flair to the scene. Adding movement captured the cosiness and charm of winter festivities with the aim of leaving the viewer feeling as though they could reach out and take a taste.

The Power of Drama in Product Photography

From the way light hits a glass, to the swirl of a cocktail, or an unexpected floating macaron, dramatic food photography brings an element of surprise. This winter, I’m exploring every possible way to create atmospheric, story-filled images, so each product I shoot stands out from the crowd.
