Winter Projects That Add Value to Your Home
Winter is the perfect time to tackle some indoor projects that will add to your home value. Because who really wants to go out in this frigid cold anyway? Use your time wisely in ways that will provide excellent returns on your investment. Which ones will you tackle?

Painting
A fresh coat of paint is always a great idea. If you’re looking to sell soon, it’s a good idea to stick to neutrals that could appeal to most anyone. New paint can cover dingy corners, minor cracks and stray nail holes, giving your walls a smooth, fresh finish.
Flooring
Could your floors use an update? Whether you’re considering new carpet or hardwoods, winter is a great time to tackle this indoor project. And you know as well as I do that clean, fresh flooring is a major draw!
Lighting
During these long, dark months, we all crave as much light as possible. You can outwit the darkness by updating fixtures and replacing bulbs with the highest wattage allowed. A new dining room chandelier with twice the bulbs can dramatically change the room. And adding a ceiling fan that contains a light can brighten up a dark space. Get creative and lighten things up!
Backsplash
If you’re looking to update your kitchen with a relatively easy project, consider installing a chic backsplash. Even if you have a small wall over the stove, some tasteful tiles can really liven up the room and provide an updated look.
Doors
Have your doors taken a beating from kids, pets and years of moving things in and out of rooms? Give them some TLC with putty, fresh paint and perhaps even some moulding. And don’t forget to update the knobs for a completely fresh start!
Closet
Buyers (and you) will love the idea of a custom closet. Check out Pinterest and your local hardware store for some inspiration. Consider how you use the space and what you need specific places for. Build your dream closet around this. You’ll be amazed at how much larger your closet appears when it’s organized!
Bathroom
You don’t have to completely overhaul the bathroom to get an updated look. You can add paint, accent tile, fresh grout and new fixtures. Update your towels and décor, and you’ve got a brand new room! This is a great weekend project!
Mudroom
Has your mudroom seen … well, a little too much mud? Give it a good scrubbing and consider how you use the space. What would help you keep it tidier and make it more livable? Could everyone have their own cubbies? Wall shelves for odds and ends? Space for slippers to slide on when you come in? And don’t forget the bench to sit on and the moisture absorbing mats! You’ll have it spruced up and ready for the spring before you know it.
The winter cold is here to stay for a bit, so make the most of it. Tackle projects that you and future buyers will enjoy for many seasons to come.
