Winter of Discontent, Christmas 2022

Winter of Discontent, Christmas 2022

This year, we have been reliably told by the UK Press that we are entering the Winter of Discontent with various branches of the UK working population all going on strike, NHS staff including Nurses and Paramedics, Fire Service, Railway workers et al.

I know that with raising costs of Food, Energy, and other requirements to live, people are?feeling the pinch and want to be paid more, I understand that too.

So, once again, what has the Government come up with is an original idea (not) to help mitigate these issues in the short term? CALL OUT THE MILITARY.

So, with a slowly dwindling Armed Forces, they will have to step in at short notice again to fill some of these vital roles.

With probably a short retraining program and lots of on-the-job training, plus short notice to their families over Christmas period they will be deployed throughout the UK.

Merry Christmas troops, you are now all on standby once again.

I know that Striking is a right of every employee in the UK (expect the military), and I for one would be the last one to say that they don’t have the right to do so.

But when the military are called up at, often at very short notice to stand in, it shows the public and UK business sector how very adaptable and versatile they can be, that they can adapt to new situations and roles very quickly and professionally.

So, all I ask is that UK Business leaders think about what the military personnel can do, and have done in the past, like the London Olympics, Covid, stepping in for Firefighters, Nurses et al, showing their ability to adapt and overcome and flourish in very difficult conditions and under pressure.

In my business experience as a recruiting consultant and a business owner, I keep getting knock backs from potential employers who cannot or not recognise the potential of former service personnel in joining their company.

They cannot see that the military is a highly intelligent and flexible workforce, who can adapt to new situations, often at very short notice, and more than that, can deal with these types of demands extremely well and bring another insight and viewpoint into their companies.

As proud member of the Service community, I believe that Former service personnel, in my humble opinion, are part of our unsung heroes who step up to the line every single day without complaint, and at very short notice (Maybe a small whinge)

Therefore, I feel that UK Business should open their doors and minds and think positively about hiring former service personnel for their business as they can bring a lot with them to help benefit your company now and in the future.
