Winter is coming!

Winter is coming!

Winter is coming, as we all know. So here at Castle Driver Training, we have asked our brilliant trainers what their top tips are for keeping your Minibus at the safest level it can be during the super cold snaps that hit our little island.

Here is the wisdom they have imparted on us

? Check your vehicle before every journey. Walk around checks are an essential part of any forward planning for your journey. Our nifty little app ‘The School Transport Manager’ has been designed for this very purpose. It can be downloaded for free from both the iTunes and Google Play stores.

? Make sure to check and if needs be clean your windscreen wipers to prevent smearing.

? Check all bulbs are correct and working. Get someone to help with your brake lights, have another member of staff stand behind the vehicle while engaging the brakes to ensure they are all functioning properly.

? Those pesky licence plates! Check they are fully visible as winter weather can kick up all sorts of muck and impair visibility of the information.

? Allow adequate time for your journey, allowing yourself to prepare your Minibus for its journey. Checking weather and traffic reports.

? Finally, make sure you have your essential winter kit. Our driver trainers advise a good de-icer, scrapper, extra hat/gloves and a blanket (just in case.)

Most importantly stay safe! Winter driving conditions can create all sorts of hazards which we don’t usually encounter, be prepared, alert and reactive to the changing environment around you.
