Winter Blues or Bliss?

Here we are in the last days of February. The messy middle of Winter.

As the winter chill drags, people everywhere rejoice in the cozy sanctuary of the indoors. While some may see the season as a time of hibernation, active introverts see it as an opportunity for introspection and quiet enjoyment.?

Today, I have three unconventional tips (at least ones I’ve not found tailored toward introverts) for active introverts to beat the winter blues and revel in the solitude (and gratitude) of the season.?

But let’s be clear… Come on, Spring!

Each Sunday, as you prepare for and plan your upcoming week, I'll offer insights, strategies, and actionable steps to help you find your center and make the most of your days.?

Thanks for being here, and let's dive into this week's topic:?

Is Winter Bliss or Blues for Introverts?

Embrace Hygge Hobbies: In the Danish tradition of hygge (pronounced "hoo-ga"), introverts can find solace in cozy indoor activities that warm the soul. Instead of lamenting the cold weather, indulge in hobbies that bring comfort and joy.

Whether it's the art of tidying, experimenting with new recipes in the kitchen, or immersing yourself in a captivating novel by the fireplace, embrace activities that nourish your spirit and ignite your creativity.

When was the last time you bought a coloring book? Tried sketching the scene from your window? By focusing on hygge hobbies, introverts can transform the winter blues into a season of cozy contentment.

Nature's Whisper: While winter may seem like a time to retreat indoors, introverts can find beauty and serenity in the quietude of nature. If most everyone is inside, that means fewer people outside, right? Bundle up in layers, step outside, and let the crisp air awaken your senses.?

I LOVE running in the snow. The world is all my own. Everything else is asleep or moving slowly. Not a runner? Take leisurely walks through a local snow-covered landscape or marvel at the stillness of the world around you. In nature's embrace, introverts can find peace and tranquility, allowing them to recharge and rejuvenate amidst the winter blues.

Suit up and get outside.?

3. Digital Detox Dinners: Back in the day (still cool to say that, right?) I used to enjoy eating a meal with a newspaper or book and reading while slowly enjoying a meal. Having kids changes that quickly.?

Today, however, we are consumed by constant connectivity. The newspaper or book is replaced with our phones.? It is an extension of our bodies and our resonance in the world.?

“Encourage” family members to leave their devices at the door and embrace the present moment without distractions. Share stories, laugh freely, and savor the simple pleasure of human connection. Our favorite question to discuss is, “What was the favorite part of your day?”??

If single or alone for the day, sit with your thoughts. Talk to yourself out loud. Have a pet? Invite them to dinner and hold a fantastic conversation (this is your chance to practice leading a conversation).?

By being present and free from digital distractions, introverts can cultivate deep and meaningful relationships that warm the heart during the coldest of seasons.

Action-Provoking Questions

As you embark on this week's journey, ask yourself and write down your answers (in a journal, notes app, etc.):?

  1. How can I incorporate more hygge moments into my daily life to cultivate a sense of coziness and contentment?
  2. What steps can I take to prioritize meaningful connections with loved ones and create memorable moments free from digital distractions?

I appreciate and am grateful you joined me for this Calm Out of the Box edition. If someone else might benefit, please share.

Wishing you a serene and productive week ahead. Stay warm out there!
